I came out with small optional background/story for him - At first, he was very experienced and well trained warrior, but after major injure on his wing (hand) he decided to slow down and learn other way to fight. He learned magic based on elementals, and since then he's spending most of his time in library, studying new spells and making his own book filled with them ❤️
