Been a while since I’ve done an icon, and wanted to draw something non-artfight related to keep up my current pace. I knew immediately it was going to be Abaddon next, mainly because, like Gaze, I refused to draw him front facing. He used to be an even bigger pain to draw like this because at least Gaze has a mouth to offer some idea of how his face looks. But, it just meant I could find ways to draw him head on, and remembering shadows existed helped. I went for something menacing with the lighting, as well as to shape where light would hit his muzzle.

I’ve been making small changes here and there for my main story characters, and since Abby is the main big bad, I worked on him some more. Abaddon, out of all my villainous/evil characters, is likely my favorite because on surface level, he just seems evil to be evil. But for his story, he’s been through such immense grief and loss that, if things had been different, he’d actually be a pretty awesome father and not so bad, for a demon. Even still, he isn’t completely evil. He has boundaries and he doesn’t really take joy out of doing some of the things he does, for the most part. Is he a horrible dad? Absolutely. Are there explanations for his behavior? Yes, but that doesn’t make them okay, and that’s why I feel like he’s kinda complicated. And under his intimidating and dark exterior, is a very, very traumatized individual.
