I was thinking maybe she has a significant other, family member, or paid social worker help her out every morning and night. Someone who would give gentle pets and words of encouragement every day to try to help her mentally cope.

I guess in a world of accessible nanites that can be hacked and reprogrammed, handlers are a necessity. (Since they were mentioned here and here, as well as other points in the sequence.) ^_^ She must've gotten found and been able to get her mind back, even if she couldn't get her body back. Maybe because there's just no safe way to add that much mass back on.

And then there's my yinglet, who kind of liked having the safety net of a disability payment, but isn't sure she wants to argue that being a yinglet is necessarily a disability. At least not yet. Certainly is making things challenging, though. But instead of losing her hands, she's gained two more. (It is fun to balance on her tail briefly, in order to be able to give The Quadruple Deuce or Quad Yinger Guns, she'll admit.) ^_^;;

I write a story series titled "Modern Major Yinglet" (Chapter 1 Text Version / PDF Version) featuring a human in present day Earth who gets turned into a yinglet and must deal with being one in modern society. It has 11 chapters so far and is still going. I have commissioned a picture of the main character Vayryn and have even received a piece of fan art for the story. ^.^;;

I have two other series going, one with a non anthro pet dragoness, and one with a superhero Hoofbun. I use this page as a "starting page" for my writing as it has summaries and links to the first chapter of each story, and shows the three main characters. ^.^

Basically my Lapdragonverse stories in a nutshell. Except the stipend is a UBI, everyone gets one, and it's paid for by a tax on billionaires and automation, as well as a little bit of state capitalism. (The latter is mostly used to make sure that John Deere doesn't have a monopoly on calories grown on American soil. The other side effect of it is that most places you go, you can find a fully automated restaurant serving free, healthy, tasty food, so it's sort of set a floor on the quality of fast food. You CAN compete with free, but you can't serve crap and charge money for it any more!) Also, the pets get a UBI, too. It's not a super lucrative thing, but when you're a pet, your expenses are pretty negligible, (your keeper is expected to provide room and board; the government provides healthcare) so that UBI can buy kind of a lot of little luxuries.

It's less dystopian than ADF's "People Pets" series, but also requires more optimism to believe it could happen. ;)

UBI would be wonderful, yeah. Companies should not be allowed to control the things vital to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Companies should not be able to form monopolies on things like water, food, electricity, heating, internet, etc.

I just really hate the idea of being "a burden" or being "useless" for my Owner. I want to be a good pet. I have a lot of anxiety about these thoughts, so the idea of some kind of "stipend" or even "my UBI" would be great, especially when I'm a pet that can't really do anything work-like. Granted, a pet dragon can be an effective guard animal or bodyguard. Ultimate "Scary Dog Privilege" when you've got an armored tank with giant claws and flaming breath. ^_~
