This weeks prompt was 'moving out'. That led me to remember 'how' I ended up moving out from home, and where I went - the United States Coast Guard.
I was only 17, so my father had to sign the papers. I told him this, and I remember hims saying, 'Give'em here.'
My daughter then asked, 'When was I the most scared in my life?' One thing led to another, and here we are.
NOTE: This is a true story.

I always look forward to the recounting of your experiences, Vixyy.
I suppose in a sense, I have always been open to existence of ghosts, shades, whatever you wish to call them. They're a mystery, but it is comforting to know that as startling as they may be, they can look out for us.
Good thing to, if your description is to go on, braving seas that rough wouldn't have ended well.

You have such good stories V, I can't recall ever having such a clear supernatural encounter. And now you have me considering the most scared I've ever been...hhhhmmm...
And I've heard the saying, God looks after drunks, fools, and small children ;)
Have you ever heard of the Eilean Mòr mysterious disappearances? Scroll down a little on this page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flann.....les_Lighthouse
Personally I agree with the theory that two of the keepers were repairing storm damage when the third noticed a freak wave coming in, he ran down to warn them and all three were swept away. It certainly explains the known facts of the case.

now that was an interesting account... this day and age, people do not see the danger in nature, and if you have not been to see in anything other than a cruise ship, you have no idea what the ocean is capable of...
I'm truly happy you like my stories... I'm willing to bet you have more than a few yourself...

You are more than welcome FtD - but it's not a story; it really did happen. Always remember - it's not fear you feel of the ghost, it's fear of the unknown.
Here's another small happening, and we lived together quite peacefully.
In our old house, we had a ghost my daughter named Fred... she finally got used to him and went back sleeping in her room rather than ours. He was no bother really. Every now and again I would see something out of the corner of my eye - that sort of thing.
Well... came the day Sally, my mother in law, was dying. We kept her to the end and hospice was wonderfully helpful. Her hospital type bed was in out living room. One day I was sitting next to her bed trying to visit, and she reached out an arm towards the ceiling, and said, 'Fred.' She then looked at me and asked, 'Who's Fred?' I then had to explain him to her.
When we were moving, I offered Fred the choice to come with us. I don't believe he did. At least I haven't noticed anything. As I was packing the car for the last trip, I heard a knocking on the wall coming from the direction of my daughter's room. I yelled out, 'I'll be right there.' When I got back to the bedroom, I found I'd forgotten some things in the closet. Of course I thanked him for letting me know.
Good old Fred.

Ghostly comforts. Very nice! As someone who was super afraid of ghosts as a kid I really could have used a story like this once upon a time.
Also very happy that you didn't fall into the ocean and die of exposure. Don't join the realm of the lighthouse ghosts, please. We need ya here.

Don't think I've ever read a story with an associated nautical chart before. You always manage to surprise me, Vixxy ^^
Thank you for reminding me why I'm deeply terrified of the sea. Part of me wants to ask for more stories from the lighthouse -- it's so fascinating it almost seems surreal -- and part of me knows that if you complied, I might not sleep for a while.
I don't know if "she was as dumb as I was stupid" is a quote from somewhere, but either way, it is now.

**laughs... we out one night, and she said, 'Let's go behind the school and spot deer.' For me that was a huge green light. Getting there, I parked the van and went in for a kiss... and she tried to crawl out the window vent. (they still had those back then) She was actually serious on the spotting deer thing.
