Straight-up Star Wars vibes here. They were just hiding all of this on Earth for 200 years and no one thought to take a look? (And no, I haven't forgotten what happened here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/42763997/)
You know, it's weird.
The people fighting these things sounded like big guys had a skeleton crew monitoring the units as they engaged in combat. But from their actions then and now, it almost seems like they're empty husks being controlled by some invisible hand.
I get the impression that maybe command was going off of some very outdated records on these things. Which makes me kind of wonder who got lost in this planetary upheavel that made this world. Did the humans lose track of this tech, or did the machines lose track of a few of the humans while trying to wipe them out?

Yeah that does seem odd . . . . but also two questions pop into mind:
1. has it been mention the civilization Dillion lives in?
2. If the civilization isn't the Severine (The folks with the auto-carriers and morning star), are they controlling knowledge of the outside world?
I was reviewing some of the older pages, and it looks like their tech hasn't changed at all in the last 200 years. The autocarriers look very similar and the Morning Star was mention back in chapter 1

If the kid's tank has nuke tipped shells you might be in a rush to insure said kid never gets the time to find the 'fire' button. As to 'entire military', we don't know their military's true size - nor do we know just how big they are compared to our friend - the biggest think we saw might only come up to her knee!
Yes, I was exaggerating somewhat. And I still bet they fire first and ask questions later, though it seems our unlikely duo are not aware that the war rages on.
In regards to size. The Autocarriers are larger than Lemony. Assuming that Lemony is the same size/model as Excel.

And the Autocarriers aren’t exactly defenceless. It took an experienced operator and tower with support artillery to take out one.

I’m guessing they want the tower dead with no room for error.

Ok. Further rereading. Morningstar’s are really, Really, REALLY! Bad News.

Pretty much...
While I admit, I don't know Lemony's complete ability suite, Excel seemed to be little more than "giant, tough lizard who can punch and kick hard".
A threat, but not a threat comparable to a nuke... relative to what the Severine forces field.
Their response seems a little overkill.
But I think it's less about sighting a tower, and more about finding one with a 'pilot.'
They suspect more serious enemy action.
regardless, won't end well for either if caught.

Damn! Regardless of how awesome and interesting all this is, I must say that it's quite alarming for our two protagonists as well; not to mention that the unit seen in the last two panels (from top to bottom), known as the Morningstar, clearly says that the baddies are in serious mode now; I'm already very curious to know how this story is going to continue in the next chapter.
Someone with a little more attention to detail and knowledge of this series help me out here. There is roughly a 200 year jump between the end of part 1 where everything gets nuked to part 2 where we are introduced to Dillion and Lemon. Do you think we'll met one of the titans from the warring age?
If so, looking through all the different titans that Jack has posted. Which ones would like to see introduced as a named character or even a mentor figure in this series?

Is there any whole entire lore and theory about everyone and everything such as the Titans, who I call "Titanesses" because they’re a infinitely hypercute and infinitely hyper-adorable all-female Kaiju race I believe, and those infinitely abominable death loving life hating machines that created and started all of the whole entire war against all life in all of "Tuesday Titans"?😐
