Artists make raffles to not just attract more people to their artwork, but those who really like their art. It is very sad that pretty often the winners are those who do not care about the artist and what they do. Such people just want a free pic, they don`t think about how much efforts artist put.
But among the participants, there were probably people who were in love with my artwork and sincerely wanted to receive a drawing from me. I`m happy that you give artists the love they deserve <3

Perhaps it may be best if they don't pull in artists, to just offer it to anyone who is already watching you? So you know a fan will get it, and someone who really will give it the appreciation it deserves? Cause. Gosh. I am sorry that you have had to go through that, thats... really kinda depressing the way you described it. I would never have thought of that but yah... that is really rough sounding. I would agree it's certainly better for someone who truly appreciates it, loves your work and knows how much time and effort you put into it to win over someone just there for a chance at something free <3.
That's why I give away a free sketch every month among my patrons! (This is not an advertisement, but... :D) I know for sure that these people support me and my art, and appreciate my time and I want to please them despite my order list :з
The public lottery is, first of all, a way for an artist to become more popular, because their income directly depends on it. On the other hand, this method is also a lottery for the artist themself, because the raffle does not guarantee a large influx of audience at all, however it adds you work, you could not have done
In any case, it doesn’t matter to me if I got a profit from the lottery, if I like the character of the winner, if the winner is someone popular, or if they have 20 followers - I will give it my all and draw a beautiful artwork. I will spend days of my life on this, which I could spend for orders. And I'm very sorry to receive "ok thanks" for this.
Unfortunately, I have already encountered this situation more than once, so the spark went out in me to hold public lotteries for full rendering prizes Х)

Makes sense.
For raffle all what a person has to do is hit a few buttons to meet your raffle standards, wait x amount of times which means they forget about it and suddenly see the results that they were not expecting.
Now about commissions it will be different.
People don't just spend money, they had to earn that money first.
So after spending, they wait and keep it in mind the whole time on your work.
Which means are much more grateful on seeing their commission request finished.

It's always the ONE-TIME clients too, I've noticed. xD
They join the raffle, but then never interact again unless there's a chance at another free raffle, but they disappear once they don't win the second time.
Clients that pay will always appreciate you the most. Proven by the fact that they are willing to pay.
