If the camera is hand held, the short flash duration will prevent blur from hand jitter. Unfortunately, a flash located near the lens wipes out the shadows that provide important clues that your brain uses to construct a 3D mental image.
For best results:
1)Use a tripod.
2)Use the self timer to trigger the shutter at least a second after you have stopped touching the camera.
3)Turn the flash off.
4)Have one light source (such as a 100 watt flood lamp bulb) above and a little in front of the subject, and a second light source a little in front and toward one side of the subject.
You will be amazed at the improvement!
