I know what you mean by the fascination of working with tiny objects at great precision. In my research, I've worked with microelectrodes smaller than a wavelength of light in diameter - so small that you can stick many of them into a single cell without harming it. I'm a bit crazy, too. Asperger's in my case. I can't remember names or faces worth a darn, but my love of taking things apart into the smallest possible pieces and then putting them back together again makes scientific research a great pleasure, though my art is quite eccentric...

That is awesome! I was a biology major before I changed over to art in my third year - I would have really enjoyed working in a lab. I have enough interests for too many lifetimes, I fear!
I work part time at a hospital that is massively invested in research and it just fascinates me. It's amazing the work being done in all areas of medical research right now. :) Kudos to you for working in the field!
