This is the beauty I picked up the other day for about $325. It's a Mossberg model 500 12ga. The heatshield and folding stock made me get it, plus they guy cut me a deal.
I picked up a box of shells and drove out to the range yesterday and today . My hands shook as I loaded up the magazine with four shells, chambered one, and put one more in. The open ring sight made it better due to the fact that where that ring was happened to be the exact pattern that the shot went. I had to get a Limb Saver (the rubber cap you see on the end of the folded stock) because the pastic made it feel like a mule kick every time I fired it. Driving my car (a manual) was fun seeing as how my arm felt like jelly.
I can't be more than pleased with it's action. I never shot a shotgun, or a rifle above a .22LR until yesterday. I feel that this is the best investment I have ever made, and I look forward to putting countless cases of ammunition through it in the coming years.
Oh, and the side-saddle shell holder is one of the best features on this weapon. It's only second to the side-fold stock which allows for a more compact weapon, and allows you to shoot from the hip more easily. One guy at the range said "I'd bet that shooting it that way would be hard on the wrist." I wish I could have told him that the fact that I masturbate half a dozen times daily would be harder on my wrist than that.

The reason you never see it being used in movies as a semi-auto is because of the fact that shotgun blanks have NO recoil. However, thre really isn't such a thing as a "high recoil" shells as the weapon is only chambered for 2 3/4" shells. "High recoil" would probably mean 3" magnum rounds, but not very many military weapons are chambered for 3" shells except for my little beauty.
by 'high recoil' I meant regular bird shot wont cycle one, sometimes even 00buck won't cycle it.
I used to have one till I sold it to a friend.
don't have a pic of it anymore but my 500 is similar to the one you got.

Well you could always poleax them with the pistolgrip! Personally, I like the spas12 because you can switch between semiauto and pump on the fly, this also why I like the Benili M3 Super90. It better then the Spas IMO because its modern, ease of access to spare parts, lighter and more user friendly. Nice buy!
Nice shotgun. My younger brother acquired a used Mossbergh 500 he bought off someone he knows for $25. It has the wooden pump lever but not the matching butt stock. I also see you have some target shot. Just wait until you get use to it enough to go up to some peppier ammo.
I shot my buddies full camo Remington toward the end of last summer at my grandfathers camp and was popping off some Winchester Super-X nitro mags. Had a good sized bruise after ten shells where the butt stock was sitting.
