Having a portfolio available is a great first step. I can only speak to the game industry, but attending shows (PAX, Gamescom) where you can meet developers face-to-face can be helpful in building connections. If that's not possible, interacting with them via social media or Discord can be a good way. A lot of the times in these creative industries, it's not what you know, but who you know, and who knows you.
In groups, we have a habit of putting people on a pedestal. We tend to assume that certain people are smarter or more talented than us and that we can't attain the level. Then, even to interact with them, we begin to assume we need to be at that same level.
But I can tell you that isn't true. Talent doesn't exist. A person's skill or success is usually attained through passion and focus with a bit of luck. As long as you aren't pushing yourself on someone, there's never any harm in reaching out. They're just people too.
Plus, you're really good at what you do. A lot of people have done visual novels or RPGs with far less skill than you have, so I think you'd be an asset on any team.
