I'd try to run past them and get help from a professor ASAP. Maybe one of the kids will actually be wise enough to realize that using attacks in the lab would mean big trouble for them. And we can get the help we need at the same time. Two birds with one stone.

You'd think that, but in Red and Blue you have a fight in the lab with no problem.

From the games I recall playing, you don't have any pokéballs by the time you first get your starter, which would only mean they could make you faint....but then again they already have a pokédex too...

And it's not like a story has to follow the precise gameplay of the series, too!
