The fourth and final dragon out of the ones I was able to Heroforge!
Fabian is based on an RP character, but not D&D this time. His development story starts out in a bit of an odd direction: watching a YTP of Jem and the Holograms. The YTP was so wild I ended up curious about what the actual show was like. I watched the entire first season, and it was also wild. 80s toy commercial and heterosexual soap opera is such an odd combo, and yet I found myself enjoying the ride.
A year and a half after this, I start playing the browser game Flight Rising. Essentially: dragon Neopets, but you breed couples together to make babbs of new colors and genetic patterns. But the playerbase was big enough that you could collect the colors you wanted directly off of the in-game market. I ended up finding a group of players via a now-defunct tumblr, and we got together for RPs using the numerous dragons we collected as characters. The rules of the lore of FR's world of Sornieth ended up getting bent a bunch in the process. I wasn't as active in those RPs, but I had plans that would bend those rules even harder. Unfortunately, I'm only still in contact with one member of that old RP group for personal reasons I'd prefer not to discuss here, but fortunately that one member is the relevant one for Fabian's development.
I think it was 2016? when I rewatched highlights on Jem on a whim. At the same time, I noticed that the Okapi gene on Tundra dragons (to summarize: precious floofs) ended up making a glamrock makeup effect. The result was, of course, a glamrock tundra. The name Fabian was quickly picked as a pun on fabulous. He got a few bandmates, and my one RP partner wanted to try making him boyfriends with their Trent Reznor tundra. Sadly, this plan kinda fell through in the end, but RP partner was happy to let me revive Fabian in regular OC world when I asked.
The decision to revive Fabian came from
TatsuoDaichi and I discussing FNAF Security Breach shortly after its release. We wanted to enjoy the glamrock animatronics (Crocko for previous FNAF nostalgia, myself for weird Jem nostalgia, and both of us for Monty's existence). However, we did not want to deal with Scott Cawthon's politics (and that's as far as I'm going to go on that topic). I brought up Fabian, and we both figured he'd be a good substitute for the same niche. And thus, Fabian became a robot.
Unfortunately, Heroforge wasn't quite able to pull off a couple things I wanted to portray in Fabian's design. Firstly, his hair is supposed to have a two-tone navy/purple effect that I couldn't get to show up clearly. Secondly and even more distressingly, Heroforge doesn't let you put on glamrock makeup :( The outfit is also kind of a WIP placeholder to sorta match the style of the glamrock animatronics.
I still haven't figured out how Fabian was created, or how he meets the rest of the cast. However, there is one thing I have decided. He never got a surname when he was created, because "robot entertainers don't need last names." Seb proposes that he and Fabian team up as an indie entertainer group, and that Fabian take on a stage surname themed after a planet in the solar system like Seb did. Fabian is completely on board with this ("If I already picked a new name when I transitioned, I might as well go all the way") and picks Jupiter because of the electricity powers that he acquires during his adventures.
Once again, for those who have read all that, thank you for your time and patience :D
