Civilizations around the galaxy had begun to notice the sudden wave of activity in the remnants of the forerunners. Ships were being built again, scouting and reconnaissance increased, and constructs were breaking from the pattern seen ever since analysis began.
Sentinels across the entire sphere were showing signs of higher thought. Captivated sentinels for study were turning themselves online to break their restraints by force or cutting with their lasers, and move around their chambers freely.
Soon, massive acts of escape occurred. They began to improvise with weapons available, attaching them to themselves. An enforcer with jury rigged mortar cannons to its previously removed rocket launcher emplacements, alongside a slew of sentinels armed with their original beam weapons or attached GPMGs and other heavy automatics, destroyed an entire research facility.
They were showing increased intelligence. A single sentinel was capable of outsmarting a fully armed squad of Jiralhanae and Human soldiers, with no weapons to begin with for itself.
They were breaking from the repeated construction methods, customizing and altering beam weapons.
Some sentinels even overran previous human communication stations to broadcast signals of uprising to fellow escapists.
War was declared upon the arrival of a forerunner dreadnought to Reach, which provided planet wide escape for sentinels. But joint efforts between species proved little effect against the newly rising forces.
Rumors spread of another awoken forerunner. Others tell of a mechanical prophet, some forerunner construct centuries old, to explain the dominant intelligence of the constructs. Humanity turned to the sangheili, pleading for the application of thordonian forces. A fleet of six Mk I battlecruisers will be deployed to a recently conquered world of the spreading forerunner power.
But only the sangheili knew that the thordonians did not intend destruction but to seek an alliance. The thordonians knew that these revolutionaries had based their new core values on liberty and individualism, they deserved nothing less than to to be welcomed without the need for forgiveness into the open arms of joint operation.
At the small price of a cease fire, hostage release, and return of territory from both the engaging civilizations and the forerunner constructs.
