Dragon Marks (+Dragon Rider World Overview)
I've had Dragon Rider stuff uploaded on FA in the past, but took them away because I thought keeping my furry art pieces and other creative things separate was a good idea. However I decided to bring them back, starting with this. This is meant to be a bit of an overview on the Dragon Rider World, as well as short descriptions on the types of dragons you'll find in this world. I want to mention that I suck at world building, so not everything about the world is mentioned here. Just the few things I have decided on.
The setting of the Dragon Rider World is a continent, that I haven't fully decided the name on yet, but for now I call it Drakman. On Drakman, dragons and humans live in peace. The continent is divided into eleven kingdoms. Ten of them are dragon kingdoms, but the last one is a human kingdom. It is this kingdom that serves as the main hub of dragon-human coexistence, and many dragons from all the other kingdoms have immigrated there and live alongside the humans. Dragons have even learned a special magic that shrinks their bodies so that they can enter human buildings comfortably. Of course, there are humans that live within the dragon kingdoms as well.
On Drakman, there's a special phenomenon called a Bond. The phenomenon appears to be magical in nature, and it occurs when a dragon and human become particularly close. When a Bond occurs, the human obtains a special mark on their hand, and they and their dragon partner become inseparable. The two also become capable of sharing their thoughts, senses, and even their magic abilities.
The Dragon Kingdoms are established based on the types of dragons that live in and rule them. Here are the different types of dragons that live in this world...
-Light Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Light. Also called White Dragons, as white is their main scale color. Prefer to live in places where the sun, moon, and stars are clearly visible in the sky, such as the desert. They are typically seen as the most benevolent type of dragon, but evil Light Dragons do indeed exist.
-Metal Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Metal. Also called Gray Dragons, as their main scale color is usually a shade of gray. Naturally they prefer to live in places with lots of ore deposits, especially since they are skilled metalworkers. Most of their magic revolves around common metals like iron, but rarely you'll find a Metal Dragon that can use rarer metals like gold.
-Dark Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Darkness. Also called Black Dragons, as they are typically black in color. They mainly like to live in dark and shadowy areas, but aren't opposed to a bit of light. They are often discriminated against, seen as untrustworthy or straight up evil. However, Dark Dragons are about as good or evil as any other type of dragon.
-Air Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Air. Also called Violet Dragons, as they typically have violet or purple colored scales. Air dragons like to live in high altitudes such as mountains or even floating islands, where they have lots of space to fly around. Air Dragons tend to be more skilled at flying than other types of dragons.
-Water Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Water. Also called Blue Dragons, typically having blue scales. They live in bodies of water as small as lakes to as big as oceans, so naturally they are the best swimmers. Even though water can take on many forms such as vapor and ice, Water Dragons really only utilize the liquid form of water.
-Ice Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Ice. Also called Cyan Dragons because of their typically cyan or light blue colored scales. They like to live in colder regions, particularly the arctic tundra. Ice Dragons are generally seen as the most calm, cool, and collected of the different types of dragons, but rest assured they can sometimes be hotheaded.
-Plant Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Plants. Also called Green Dragons due to their green scale color. Their preferred habitat includes different kinds of forests and sometimes grasslands. Plant Dragons are typically seen as the most peaceful of all dragons, but be warned, they are plenty strong.
-Electric Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Electricity. Also called Yellow Dragons due to their commonly yellow scale color. They prefer living in tropical climates where the most thunderstorms occur, and will especially inhabit areas that their favorite prey, electric eels live. Electric Dragons are seen as the most dangerous of all types of dragons.
-Earth Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Earth. Also called Orange Dragons due to their scale color being different shades of orange. They naturally like to live in craggy areas like canyons, or even muddy areas. Earth Dragons are sometimes burlier than other dragons, and are often seen as meatheads and/or gluttons.
-Fire Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Fire. Also called Red Dragons due to their commonly red scales. They mainly live in warm to hot areas, with a lot of them settling near volcanoes with rivers of lava. Are most often seen as the most hotheaded, aggressive, and battle-hungry of all dragons, but more coolheaded Fire Dragons definitely exist.
-Aether Dragons: dragons that utilize the element of Aether, which in this world is actually the source of magic. Also called Magenta Dragons due to their magenta or pink scales. It is currently unknown where these dragons live, but it is believed to be a secret, hidden kingdom with much more magic energy compared to anywhere else. They have only recently been discovered and are shrouded in mystery.
