I'm going to be a nitpicky weeaboo
Technically, kitsune is nothing more than the Japanese word for a fox, so any fox ever is a kitsune. Naturally, English-speakers don't need two words for fox, so they use kitsune to mean only Japanese mythological foxes, who tend to have ridiculous superpowers.
