A cartoon I drew for the Spontoon website, shortly after Ken okayed the idea of short haul rail lines on the Islands, say like on a Sugar Plantation. I just couldn't resist the pun inspired by the little locomotive's manufacturer's name.

No... Although I think there was a monorail that had that configuration built in the late 1800s. Try a 2-4-0 on the Whyte configuration chart.

2 / 4/ 0 front mid an rear wheels looking from the left side of the engine set that way like mounting a horse (iron in this case)

I see a slight problem with the drive system. The steam cylinder's piston connecting rod isn't directly connected to the front drive wheel set, but to something on the boiler, then the front drive wheels.

There's nothing wrong with a little narrow-gauge fun. besides, it's rather common down in the islands – look at all the fun they had with that half scale locomotive and track that that crazy Commodore Perry dropped off in Japan.

I liked that too. I'm reminded of an old Mighty Mouse cartoon in which a volcano erupts, billowing smoke and whistling steam in the fashion of a departing locomotive ;)

that reminds me of the lake of bays railine. They ran it near huntsville til 1959. But now it's working agian. :)

Another reason to visit Alabama, for sure. I was delighted, and a bit apalled to see the Sugar Pine Railway is hosting an event featuring Thomas the Tank Engine. Still, I believe the youngsters will love it.
