Second dragon, and the other one based on a D&D character. The same college buddies as before did a 5E campaign set in Europe on the cusp of the Roman Republic becoming the Roman Empire, but with the D&D pantheon and biosphere overlaid on top of it.
I decided to stick to my Furry Brand and do another dragonborn, this time bronze because they were the electric breath ones of the metallic five. For the figure, I tried to color match the official art of bronze dragons as best I could. This... does not look bronze to me, but it doesn't look bad either. As for the armor style, you might be wondering why it's not the legionnaire-style lorica. The answer is partly because as iconic as that armor is to Rome, it only became standard after the timeframe the original campaign was based on. The DM really wanted to reflect the authentic practices of the era in his campaign, aside from the existence of airships and ice cream (yes, this is a plot point). The other half of the answer is that in OC world, King Gearlach gave him new armor :P
D&D Augustus was a Paladin of Bahamut, and the oldest son of the noble house of Renatus. Once again, highlights of his adventures:
• At age 10, a noble from another house pressured him into playing javelin William Tell with a palace slave. He succeeded in not horribly murdering them, but the whole experience was distressing and left him deeply guilty. He and his parents became abolitionists after that (another anachronism, but not an unwelcome one).
• 9 years later, he became a full-fledged paladin, and it was time to huff Oracle of Delphi fumes to receive Bahamut's holy quest. The fume trip said to go to Rome's airship port and just go along with whatever happened.
• At the airship port, the consuls were having a parade to celebrate winning the Punic Wars. But as it turns out, the cages for the gladiatorial beasts broke in the middle of the parade, just where the consuls' entourage was. The mystery conspirators wanted to pin the crime on the party wizard's noble house, with the rest of the team being at risk of conviction as accomplices. They decided to escape along with the merchant airship that was carrying the gladiatorial beasts.
• The mystery conspirators tried to tie up the loose end by sneaking assassin spiders into the cargo hold. Augustus slept through being web bondaged by them, but woke up before venom shenanigans could happen and only took 12 seconds to break out. Casualties were minimized.
• Random green dragon attack! But as it turns out, it was a fake dragon fabricated by gnomes, who built a town inside a real ancient dragon's skeleton. They required assistance with something I can't remember. Tiamat cultists? We assisted.
• Slightly anachronistic Christmas special! The team got to meet communist firbolg Santa Claus. Communist firbolg Santa Claus was protesting the firbolg king for prioritizing glory over his people's well-being. The conflict was solved by the king's daughter accepting the crown instead, becoming the first ever firbolg queen. Progress :D
• Orc assassins from a legion that got disbanded and were also slaver scum. The team spares a traumatized defector from this legion and offers him a crew position, ice cream, and an actual name. He names himself Ice because ice cream is the first happy memory he's had in a long time :')
• We're on our way back to Rome now that things have blown over, but the dwarf king offers a mystery present to the consuls for us to deliver. The present is an earth elemental for assassination purposes, but a restaurant waiter drops a pie on the summoning circle and we get a pie elemental instead.
• The team is arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to assassinate the consuls. They spend two weeks in Sensory Deprivation Torture Prison, via Darkness and Silence spells overlaid on top of each other. This part kinda sticks with me :P
• Courtroom scene. The team combines their social skills to reduce the sentence to a combat trial. My social anxiety at the table does not reflect Augustus's rhetoric training from Roman nobility school :P
• The combat trial is against the Ginyu Force But Dragonborn because DM is also a DBZ nostalgia fan. Dragonborn Captain Ginyu bodyswapped with the High Priest of Bahamut during the course of all this. It got reversed, but the High Priest promptly retired due to being too old for this shit. That's where the campaign fizzles out, alas
So how am I converting Gus to OC world? Super WIP once again, but he's getting faeworld time dilated from 27 BC/BCE. 2050 years is a bit of a personal record for faeworld time dilation, so I'll have to think about how to make it work. Spyro-esque crystallization but he sleeps through it? Maybe. I'll keep other options open in the meantime. The sensory deprivation torture is staying in his backstory, though inflicted by the fae instead of the Romans. However, in the present day, Gus wants to get into kinkplay at his own pace as a therapeutic measure. King Gearlach adopts him as a knight with cool new silver armor and purple leathers because those are nice colors :P And that's how he's able to meet the rest of the cast.
Once again, for those who have read through all that, thanks for your time and patience :D
