ah your use of colors in these pieces are making me incredibly happy. i love your choices. what inspires you to choose what you do for your shading and highlights? do you use like cymk sliders or something different or you just kinda wing it with whatever floats your fancy? really curious on your technique of choosing colors. always adored them in your pieces.
Thank you for approving! I wish I had a system for how this happens! I try to go to the color menu or sliders as infrequently as possible, and often grab colors that are already in the scene until I absolutely need a new one, and before doing any sliding I will often blend something and pick from the mess. Then undo the blend if its continued presence seems distracting.
When generating the initial colors, I have the incredibly unscientific method of drawing outlines with whatever color was last active in the program, unless it seems to light, in which event I will probably make a fresh dark blue or purple. I also almost never eye-drop colors from the character references (and i DEFINITELY do not replicate rgb or hex values if they are provided), I just try to approximate them quickly. Here instead of a grey I got a reddish tone. Instead of trying to fix it I aimed for a blue tone to balance the red. The midsection though called for dark grey, so to keep the areas distinct without just tinting the colors I already used toward 0, I dropped in some green. I wasn't sure it worked but the recipient seemed to accept it.
