Unlike characters like Rose or Monty, Malachi start off in his No Guard form by default not necessarily because his Wave-Hero form is so strong but because the form that Yaga and her kind gains access to is quite frankly hazardous to the life around them and has thus been considered forbidden. In fact, most of his race has made a pact between the Furrls and Borguro's race to remain in their no guard form at all costs or else they risk being overshadowed by Yaga and could wreck havoc on the planet.
