Rude Dog was the clothing brand, I remember having some white plastic mugs with him on them. I used to watch this cartoon when I was younger until they stopped airing it. I didn't find out until recent years that the cartoon was meant to make potential buyers aware of the clothing line. Of course when you're little you're not going to know, I just thought he was a normal cartoon character. :)
That's cool they gave kids the option to "call Rude Dog" and talk with him. From what I remember reading about him in recent years Rude Dog was a line of surf cloths and summer wear aimed at beach goers. I think I also might have had a t-shirt with Rude Dog on it. But the plastic white mugs with handles that had Rude Dog on them were the most memorable for me because they were something one of my brothers and I won at the local bazar when we were younger. Aside from having a painted design of Rude Dog I think the cup itself was also a Rude Dog branded item. I used it so much that the design art wore off of it.
As for the cartoon. From what little I know about it the basis behind the story is that Rude Dog was the cool surfer dude and the Dweeb's were a group of friends that were kind of lame-o outsiders. But eventually he ends up befriending them and would drive them around in a pink Cadillac helping them become cooler. Again, my knowledge on the story is limited. It was just a fun cartoon. Of course I'm remembering from when I was probably 8 or so. It's been a bit. :)

I loved Rude Dog back when I was a kid. Of course being little I didn't know he was the mascot for a clothing brand. Since you are the first in recent years to physically draw him I'm giving you massive props for doing so. I loved the Rude Dog and The Dweebs cartoon growing up but it didn't run for very long. I told CavitySam here on FA about him a few years ago because she loves obscure 80's characters but I don't think she ever drew him. :)
