YEAH THEY ARE.
Instead, when I took 3D Design in high school, the teacher told my friends that I was a terrible student and that I should never pursue visual arts.
Of course, there are no basic art classes in public school, at least not when I went. All the money went to the football team, and in order to get into most of the art classes, you had to have a portfolio to show to the teachers.
No wonder I dropped out and got a transfer degree from the community college.

I could base an entire chapter of a comic on this person if I wanted. I think her problem was that she was actually a terrible musician and had issues with it. We asked her to play one of the songs from a Dinotopia book once, and it sounded god awful (maybe she just couldn't play piano - I have no clue). Sounded much different when it was plugged into Mario Paint.
I only managed to get into the music class, because I was doing something completely unrelated. :P Did a still life of instruments for a portfolio piece for my art exam, failed outright; Which shows the xylophone is a sucky instrument and I should feel bad for also including the graphic graffiti as will in my final piece.
I guess I had it a lot better. I didn't like music class for the first 5 years of elementary school because the teachers were boring and had no control over the kids, but they weren't horrible like this or anything. Then in 6th grade we had a terrific teacher that made us do all sorts of interesting stuff and got the attention of the class. But of course we only get music classes until 6th grade so that was the end of that.
We got to write our own music on some beginner's music notation program in 6th grade. With Commodore 64 computers too, it kicked ass. It reminded me of Mario Paint actually, I wish I could remember the name of it.
I'm sorry to hear your music class escapades were not as fun. Our teacher had a doctorates degree in music theory, so maybe that's the ticket.
