Name: Biturth
Nickname(s): Bith
Gender: Male (he/him)
Species: Alligator
Age: Early 20s
Likes: Eating, travelling, swamps, equal company, exploring what life has to offer
Dislikes: Accidental destruction, enclosed spaces, chains, being worshipped
Ever since he could remember, Biturth had always been a wanderer. He was exceptionally large, towering over even buildings of other giants. Consequently, most others regarded him with fear and hostility, with his frightening strength causing unintended destruction. In fear of backlash and endangering others due to his own terrifying strength, he decided to avoid civilisation, venturing off into uncharted territory: the Fetid Fen, home to many creatures too dangerous for even regular giants to coexist alongside. To him, however, these creatures are food, feisty and occasionally dangerous food, but food nevertheless; they weren't delicious, but he had to make do with what there is.
Though he had lived in solitary, he occasionally saw traveling bands crossing his home, and had watched from afar, submerging himself in the deepest pools to camouflage as a strangely-colored mound of rocks. These sightseeing trips had the effect of warding off other creatures, as most had come to know Biturth as the single apex predator there, and had made the trip somewhat safer for these travellers.
Unfortunately for Biturth, he was eventually seen by some unsavory bandits. Having thought nothing of it, Biturth continued on with his day; he had thought that his presence would scare off anyone crossing the Fetid Fen, and went to sleep in the marsh. However, when he next awoke, he found himself bound by powerful chains in a dungeon; when he was asleep, a small army of giants had captured and transported him to an unfamiliar place with the assistance of a few mages. He is then researched for his abnormal height and toughness, having his scales harvested and often left hungry by the little meals his captors had provided him to prevent him from gaining strength.
After a week or so of enduring this treatment, Biturth began observing signs of weakness in those chains, noticing specific deformations in links that would be easier to break than other parts, and quietly waited for a chance to escape. The opportunity had presented itself when the lead researcher had considered Biturth too weak to resist, and had approached the alligator’s head to harvest his teeth. Seizing the moment, Biturth lunged forward with all the strength he could muster, snapping his maw around the scientist before swallowing them whole. Then, with an extreme display of hysterical strength, snapped the chains binding him before escaping the compound, leaving chaos in his wake and allowing multiple prisoners to escape.
Somewhat jaded from the experience, Biturth attempted to make his way home towards the Fetid Fen, but stopped when he saw a normal-sized town being ravaged by a macro wyvern. Since he was hungry after his one and only meal in quite some time, he decided to snack on the wyvern, saving the village. He hadn’t planned to stay, as his presence would alert any pursuers and even put the smaller town at risk, but the townsfolk and their residential mage persuaded him to stay and allow them to thank him. With the use of the mage’s very potent shrinking artifact, A shrunken Biturth joined the community, living in the mage’s tower. There, the alligator, experienced kindness and belonging his strength robbed him, and for the first time, was treated as an equal. He’s allowed to eat as much as he desires, and that sense of community is always welcome compared to his monotonous life in the marshes; as much as he preferred the climate there, he enjoys the company of others more.
In the time he remained in the village, he had bonded with villagers. There, he learned about the Eclipse Empire’s rapid expansionism; by now, small folk are little more than convenient snacks, slaves or collectable pets, and most of their settlements have resorted to camouflage to survive. In contrary, dragons have become more and more influential. Biturth had also come to learn that Eclipse’s ruler is responsible for Biturth’s capture and subsequent experimentation.
With recent history in mind, Biturth and his mage friend decided to go on a journey; the alligator cannot evade his enemies forever, and the mage cannot protect the town by himself. Therefore, they decided to set out after ensuring citizens were well-protected, intending on stopping the war and overthrowing the Emperor. With that and a few new accessories, Biturth adjusted his shrinking accessory to appear as a regular giant and took the mage with him.
