Had an eventful past couple days and was too zonked out to upload things. But now for the last of my snake trio! Full disclosure:
TatsuoDaichi has already drawn him a few times, two of which are already in my gallery. But for the sake of completeness :P
Unfortunately, there are a few elements of his design that Heroforge couldn't accurately portray. Firstly, his hat is supposed to have a white feather in it. Secondly, the python spots on his back are supposed to be diamond-shaped (I could also have stood to make them darker, whoops). And thirdly, his body isn't as bulky as it should be. Still, despite the limitations, it's a solid effort.
The basic concept of "pirate snake" was inspired by an out-of-context clip of the Captain N episode on NES Puss in Boots. The character in question was not present in the original NES game and had a garish color scheme (olive green-brown + teal underbelly = ?????). But he got into a toon kink scenario for approximately 10 seconds, and that's what mattered :P
The name Blake was chosen for a pun on the color black, because at one point I had planned to make the main characters of my cast sentai ranger-esque color coded with none of the colors overlapping. The cast quickly ballooned in size to the point where this was no longer viable, but the name stuck. Murdoch was doubly pirate-meaningful for the Gaelic root word for "sea" plus a pun on dock.
Lore time! Blake was faeworld time dilated from 1723. The adventures he had over the course of this time dilation made him increasingly hate slavery of any kind. Unfortunately, much of the faeworld considers indentured servitude to be an acceptable form of repaying debts (i.e. the proverbial don't eat the food). "Ye, it's not the worst slavery can get, but I'm damn well not putting up with it." King Gearlach agrees with Blake on this position and wants him as an ally. Blake goes along with this for pragmatic reasons, but his opinion of the king is less favorable. "He's not slaver scum, nae, but he's still a monarch. Ye had the right idea back in our world while I was gone." Once the rest of the cast comes along, he appreciates having a "crew" he can stick with after such a long time. "Even if the lot of ye are deranged, hehehe."
