The Lyystranese are the most recent alien species I've designed for the story I have neglected to write. They were originally from a planet they called Lyystran, which was slowly devastated by orbital debris following a major space battle that occurred near their planet about 10000 years before the story's present, while the Lyystranese were still a primitive race. As their civilization grew, they eventually began to reverse engineer some of the debris that fell upon their planet, and having long known that the planet's ecology could not support their population's growth rate, opted to have a significant portion of their population (between 100 and 250 million) leave. They constructed a massive interstellar starship (part hibernation, part generational), and aimed at an average star, and hoped to find a suitable planet for colonization.

Around 2044, the Lyystranese' massive starship took up orbit around Earth, and first contact was made.
