-Three hours earlier, Berold's shack-
"The Hunter was here earlier, we cant take the risk that this is unrelated to our dealings." Berold making sure the door was locked as he whispered to the shorter conspirator.
"So what? He doesn't know its we who are doing it. And we made sure that rat from the other day was dead. I know those rats can survive a lot but having your throat cut open and gagging up blood? Nah."
"You think I am worried about one or two rats?!" Berold hissed as he started to pace, the book that was the object of apparently so much interest sat on the table between them. "No I'm worried about being found out by that damn nosey Thief Catcher who will inform that Hunter its us. He doesn't even need to be sure just him fingering us will likely be enough to be hunted down by the order."
"So we should kill the Thief Catcher then?"
"No! That would just confirm that its someone in town. Then the entire place would likely be put to the torch. I know you don't care about that but I don't want to see my home burned down due to one book and some gold." The book itself picked up by the third Human in the shack as he flipped the unlocked book open to a random page.
"All this over a picture book. Detailed one at least but the dead rat never told us why his boss wanted this did he? Wait a minute - did he ever tell us how he knew we had this?"
"No," Berold responded again, less full of spite at least. "Just that the ear eyes of their little empire are everywhere so knew it. They may have been the ones who left the tip off for its location either way. No idea why they want all those diagrams and procedures but they were willing to offer a lot for it." Running his hands down his face as he groaned. "And I accepted like an idiot, making the Hunters show up."
Shorty patting Berolds shoulder as he hopped up to sit on the table. "Hey calm down. They left and the Hunters little goon is the only one here. All we need to do is leave the town. We could do that now and no-one would know."
"I don't think we could," Tall responded as he closed but didn't relock the book before setting it on the table. "You heard what happened at the Wood cutter camp. Otto murdered. If we left they would just pin that on us. And while its not Hunters we would be burned either way."
"So what? We wait and die either way?! Fuck that if that's our options I'm taking the chance running to Bretonnia!" Shorty already heading for the door as Berold smacked the table and shook his head.
"There is a way. We killed the Skaven that showed up previously. Maybe the Hunter found them down the tunnel. What if we...hand this new Rat over to him? Show what good citizens of the Empire we are that we were able to defeat a threat to its citizens. Hells we could still take the rats money, tie it up, and then once the Hunter comes back hand it over in secret so we don't panic the town. The rats don't exist remember," tapping his nose all sneaky like. "We win in every way. We just need to come up with some story as to why we didn't report the dead rat from two days ago...Lets work out a story."
-Current Time-
It seemed so common for thieves of all stripes to think they were so skilled. The two seemed to think they were so sneaky. So inconspicuous as they moved through the empty town at night. Garrett invoking one of the oldest and most successful tactics of crouching very still as he watched Berold and Shorty carry the limp shape into their little shack. And once the door was quietly closed and then clicked shut Garrett would get up from his crouch. They were far too calm with what they are doing to have seen him. So they were pretty much guaranteed to be his targets now. Yawning again the Thief Catcher would stop, taking a few seconds to compose himself before he started to sneak over toward the Shack. Holding his manacles near his baton to not click against each other two much as he skulked around to the back of the shack. There was a window. He would sit with his back against the wall under it. Before settling in for some evidence gathering. Lots of noises coming from inside the dwelling as he smirked. This was going great! Hed peak into the window later as he looked up at the half moon night. Should be enough to look in when he was sure it would be safe too.
Though he wondered how the Hunter was doing. He had been gone all day. But Garrett was confident that he had his own situation under control. He needed to focus on these two...three? Three voices inside there. And make sure they didn't get away. His Witch Hunter badge displayed proudly on his chest. He had this! Sure it was likely some trainee badge or something. Some kind of test from the real Hunter but he'd been entrusted with this!
"He's smaller than the last one at least," Shorty would quip as the Skaven was hefted up and dumped on the table top in what could be considered the front room of this little shack. The rats head flopping to the side as his tongue flopped out his mouth to splat on the table. The drawn cloak pulled open so the group could get to his gear for looting and limbs for securing as they all stopped for a moment to look at the rats clothing.
"Orange? What idiot would wear orange as a sneaky contact color?" Berold being the one to speak this time as the hooded cloak was pulled off the rat for them all to scoff. "And yellow head hair? Pfft its like this idiot wanted to be caught." The other two snickering at that before Shorty brough out the rope as Tall started to undo the rats belt and turn him on his side to take off his backpack. Berold observing for now as he kept glancing at the door. This was the closest they had the Skaven be in the city before. And this was too close for his liking. "Just get it tied up fast. We can look through the gear after," directed at Tall that was starting to take things out of the backpack who nodded and set it aside. The rat rolled onto its front as their arms were brought behind its back. The rope wound around his wrists a few times before looped vertically around the rope that was securing the wrists.
Berold helping by pulling off the rats belt and taking the pouches off the table once they were no longer held by the belt. Scooping up the rats dagger and unsheathing it. It was pretty good quality. Berold was impressed. And not doing what he told Tall to do but the others were busy. The blade wasn't rusty or bent at a weird angle like he expected Skaven weapons to be. Balancing it on his finger near the crossguard as he huhed. It was weighted well and looked like he had been well cared for. Glancing over at the rat as his ankles were grabbed and pulled up toward his bound up wrists he nodded to himself. Either the rat had stolen this recently or he kept his gear in good working order. Shame that wasn't going to help him now as Berold picked up some rope and moved up to the rats head. "I'm sure those teeth can bite through rope. Lets make sure it can't."
Grabbing the Skavens chin to tilt his head so he could more easily slide the short length of rope under his chin. Pulling it up and around his snout to make sure his mouth stayed closed. And not that Berold cared but the shifting and tilting of Enkets head made his tongue no longer be between his teeth. So that was saved from self damage! And tying the two ends of the rope together Berold would take hold of the rats chin to tug it down. But it didn't move. Good. Though with their skull shake he was sure the Rat could still make some kind of noises. But at least it couldn't open his mouth if he somehow managed to get his bound limbs in range of the teeth. "Better to be safe."
Meanwhile Tall n Shorty were doing a similar wrap job around the rats ankles. Circling the rope around to snug them together before a vertical wrap to make sure the rope would stay tight. The rats tail shoved to the side so they could fold up his legs behind him to get the two circular wraps closer together. Speaking of that tail it started to twitch as Berold grunted as he reached over the rats body to help hold his wrists still. "Hurry up its starting to wake up." The others nodding as the remaining rope they had was slid over the top of his wrist binds before pulled under and down to his ankles. Pulling up from under that before slid over top to meet up with the wrists against as they were pulled tight and knotted. Just in time for the rat to start to wake up. The three Humans standing back to see how well they had tied him up. No shouting just hissing and the tugging and squirming did nothing but slightly strain the ropes. "Good work." The Skaven looking at them with an interesting mix of fear and rage as it shook and strained on the table top. "Make sure they have nothing left on them." The three doing a last pat down of the rats clothing as a lockpick, quill, and the necklace were pulled out.
"Hah!" Shorty triumphantly held up the shiny. "Seems like we have our wood cutter murderer too. Hells this may work after all Berold! We'll be rewarded for this after all! Win win!" Berold pleased to see that Shorty was now on side as he put the necklace near the backpack for later evidence looking as Berold grabbed the rats shoulders.
"Yeah its all coming together, come on lets get him in the backroom as we look over the rest of this for evidence and further gains for us." The coin bag set on the table with smirks from the three as they lifted up the Skaven and carried him to the back room - normally the sleeping room. "Grab the knife and book. We know what those are we can look over the rest."
Peaking up from under the window as the interior door was opened Garrett didn't need to look long before he ducked back down to not be seen. A Skaven huh...tied up and from the thump and chuckles he heard dumped in the room before the door was shut. The three tossing some things on a bedside table before closing the door. Looking up again Garrett was surprised to see how well the rats eyes stood out against the pretty dark room as they swung side to side. The curled up shape straining and squirming on the floor before the trainee Hunter ducked back down. That was surely something heretical and Chaos aligned on the floor there. He had his culprits. But another yawn made Garrett pause. Were these three Skaven Hunters per chance? Could they actually be on the side of Order and this was all a mis understanding? That would depend on what the Hunter found he suspected. But these three were clearly the most interesting suspects he had so far. And the muffled growling through the window and thunking of the rat squirming around surely was interesting. He had seen evidence of the rats before when he chased Thieves down the tunnel but had never seen one up close before.
Peaking over the window sil again he spent some time watching the rat flounder and squirm around. He was smaller than he suspected the rats to be. But that was probably due to him being pretty securely bound. And why was he wearing orange? Red was a color he more associated with the rats or green like all their symbols but orange? How odd. But it was interesting to see one up close. In the darkness and if he was having to push forward he could imagine it being scary. But with that rat being contained as he was it was more like watching a side show from the traveling show. Just getting to view it. How interesting. Ducking back down Garrett would nod to himself. He just needed to be on the lookout now for if those three suspects tried to leave. Just needed to stay alert and...yawn.
This was bad. Enket taking a moment to regain his breath from his wriggly nose so he wouldn't strain himself too bad. Take a breath, take stock - like Voch did. Be smart, don't panic. Panic was good but that wouldn't undo the rope. He was left alone for now - what could he do. Completely missing the man staring at him from the window the rat looked around the room. Eyes adjusting from the bright previous room to the darkness of this one slowly as he rolled side to side. Eyes scrunching shut at the pain of rolling over his tightly bound limbs as he tried to take stock. It was a bedroom of some kind. Though his eyes widened as he saw the book sat on a table near him! And a window. If he could only get out of these ropes he could get the book and run. Lose his other stuff but have the prize and his life. Sure there was a small chance those three bastards wouldn't kill him but someone else would. Like that Hunter! The rat struggling again as the idea of that hat staring at him through the window brought back the panic!
Before he laid still on the floor breathing deeply as he tried to be rational again. Toes and fingers flexing and wriggling as he tried to feel up the rope that was holding him like this. It felt tough. And rough. He needed a tool as the tugging from all his limbs did nothing besides rub it against his skin. Shit shit shit. Eyes roving around the room as the muttering from the main room he had been brought from was muffled but still heard by him as Enket strained and clamped his maw shut to try and at least get up onto his knees so he could see better than the floor.
"So we have the necklace and the rat, thats two puzzle pieces...how are we going to get the Hunter to accept that we did this to help?" Those beds sure looked comfy. Lucky traitor man-things. Trying to curl up forward as much as he could so he could raise his butt into the air before trying to push his face into the floor to lean back to get up onto his knees.
"We could try to find that Catcher. He was talking with him earlier and was sneaking around more than normal. Hes probably directly working with them." Bump. Enket flat on his face again as he squinted through the pain before shifting and rolling over toward one of the beds. Tail snaking out to grab hold of one of the feet of the bed as he tried again. Hopefully with more support he could right himself.
"Thats a decent idea. The rest of this stuff is just a journal and eugh...food I think? No idea what it says though. Unless this rat came from a fair ways away he sure packed a lot."
"And Lockpicks. They are rats, they probably gota eat a lot. And we need to not think too much about the rat. The Hunter will make them talk and likely tell us nothing. Thats good. Anything to get the heat off us." There! Enket wobbling a little as he knelt on both knees and the balls of his feet as he tried to not think about what they were saying too much. Their plan was to hand him over to the Witch Hunter. He needed to get out. The first rays of sunlight starting to peak through the clouds outside almost making Enket fall over again as he started to panic before he sucked in a deep breath and nodded. He was a Gilm. Look, remember, and record. He couldn't write anything down but he needed to note what he could do here. Turning his head one way then the other as he looked around the room. A bedroom with three beds, a chest with a lock on it, some tables, and the book. But he couldn't grab that now. Before he blinked. His knife was there - unsheathed but there. That was it! A tool he could use. Unwrapping his tail from the bed Enket started to slowly edge toward it on his knees. Slowly moving one forward then the other as the blade gleamed gently in the early morning sunlight. Beckoning him.
"Just make sure we keep at this together so we can hand it over to the Hunter as evidence. We need to look like we are hiding nothing." Resting his chin on the bedside table Enket looked at the knife there as he hummphed and tried to open his mouth to grab it. But nothing. His flicking tail soon trying to reach up but he wasn't an Eshin. It was very rough and wide sweeps near the table top. And couldn't reach. Flopping over sideways the Skaven curled up again to try and shove his butt upwards. Shaking it side to side as he looked up as well as he could with the right side of his face. The left shoved against the ground as he watched his tail flop over the top of the table. Slowly trying to slide it back and fourth where he last saw the knife to get a hold of it. Though he got more than that as his adjusting made the blade slide clear off the table and fall right down toward his wide open eye. The rat flattening out as quick as he could as the blade sliced across his upper arm.
Thankfully the rat was gagged so the Humans didn't hear his cry of pain as the blade was slowed down so thankfully didn't clatter loudly against the floor. His blood starting to drip on the floor Enket could at least see the blade now as he tried to focus. Tail edging up toward the blade to start to slowly wrap around the handle. How Eshin did this so easily was madness to Enket now.
"And then what? Do we give him the rat and all this stuff, necklace too to get that mystery solved, and then run?"
"No idea - Im sure the Hunter will tell us what he wants us to do. Running now will just implicate us. And likely after the hand over too. But confidence guys. We'll be fine." Enket epping as the blade lightly prodded his butt but at least he knew where it was now as he couldn't look that far back as some more wriggling let him find the rope that was between his wrists and ankles. And he started to wriggle both his tail and body back and fourth to try and cut through. Hoping to the Great Horned One that his occasional maintenace on his dagger would pull through for him now.
"The plan is still a risky one but at least this way the Hunter won't find evidence of one of those Skaven here and then gone. That should calm him down a bit." Creak creak creak. "Making it clear should please one of those lot. Something nice and clear they can torture rather than us." Several grunts of agreement from the other two - which Enket soon joined in with as the rope broke! His shoulders singing the praise of the knife as Enket promised himself he would never miss a chance to keep that dagger sharp again. But he would nod to himself as his legs unfolded. He was only partly free. And after trying to pull his arms under his legs his shoulders screamed in pain that they couldn't do that. So back to the tail the blade went as he sat on his butt. Able to at least help guide the blade with his fingers to start to saw at the rope around his wrists. And with his bound paws and tail it was much quicker to make progress. A few cuts to his palms but he just focused on sawing. There was no telling when those traitorous man-things would return.
"Yeah, positive, but we should also plan for the worst." That was Berold, the scum-scum! "If the Hunter turns towards us after we hand over all the things...what do we do? Where do we run too."
"We shouldn't talk about that. So if one of us gets nabbed we don't rat out the others."
"Hehe, rat."
"We...Damn," Berold grunted, as did Enket as the rope around his wrists broke and he raised his arms in a slight cheer. The dagger grabbed with his hands finally as he pulled the rope off his muzzle and then started on his ankles. Glancing at the cut but just ignoring it as best he could now. It was fairly deep but escaping was more important now. Though those red eyes would look up at the door as he heard the squeaking of a chair on the wood floor and steps. The rat slicing the side of his foot as he rapidly cut and stabbed at the rope as those steps got closer. "Shame it may go down like that. But you are right. Lets hope it doesn't come to that." Freedom! Enket quickly getting up on his feet and grabbing the book just as the door started to open. "Just checking on our ticket out o..." Both Enket and Berold looking at each other before both moved. Berold reaching for the rat before Enket took a hop skip and then dove into the window. Book held in front of him to impact the glass first as the Skaven flew through the air.
The crashing of glass startling Garrett awake as he looked up just in time to see the formally tied up rat fly right over top of him before bumping and rolling across the ground. Before one of the suspects leaned out the broken window desperately reaching out for the now escaped rat. "You shit!" Berold would hiss before the Rat scrabbled to his feet and looked back at both Man-things. The bloody knife thrown right at Garrett as he tried to get up too but it had been a throw in panic. Missing the Thief catcher by almost a foot. Not that Garrett was caring as he barely noticed the throw as he reached up to grab Belrods shirt and hauled the man out of the broken window. Throwing him to the ground as the rat ran. These were his suspects! And now was the time to act. Berold clearly not expecting someone to be right there as the wind was knocked out of him as he landed on his back. Before Garretts baton was out and cracking into the side of his head. The man on the floor looking up in shock at Garrett before he spasmed and then lay still.
Garrett not even looking at the fleeing bleeding rat as he looked into the shack to see the other two suspects from the open door already running out of the front door! The chase was afoot! Tiredness forgotten as the adrenaline of the chase was dumped into Garrett as he rounded the side of the house and ran after them!
Though unknown to Garrett Berold had been struck across the padded headband. And so was only clonked briefly. And as the town erupted in panic and shouting he managed to limp off with a ringing head into the forest. Into the dawn light and away from the screaming. Shorty was right about Bretonnia.
Tucking the book under his arm Enket just focused on pumping those legs as the few early risers saw him easily running through the town. Shouts and cries of Beastman! Following behind him as alarm bells and torches were lit. Thankfully most of the Man-things in front of him running away as he ran without a thought for subtly. Assuming one of those two back at the shack were after him he didn't even bother looking back. Bloody feet and arm staining his orange shirt more red helping to sell the illusion in the dawn light. Not that Skaven existed really. Diverting toward the wood groves that he had hidden, and murdered in, earlier in the day the Skaven was able to thankfully lose the small tail he did have. The screaming and panic of Beastman soon replaced by Heretics and Stop them! Garrett fully getting into his trainee role as he waved his badge. The galvanized men who were after Enket soon chasing Tall and Shorty down.
At least Garrett had got half of them.
Turns out this one will be a five parter! Hope you enjoy the extended story and look forward to the conclusion to it later :)

Oohohohoh! Smart enough to bind the rattie tight, even thinking of the bruxers, but they left that pretty tail all free! Tsk, tsk, what you get with no-furs who are also no-tails. Even if Enket got a few cuts himself in the process of cutting free, poor rat. Very resourceful rat, too, clever and thinking on his feet. Or his belly first.
Berold roasting Gilm's poor lad for the orange colour and the gold mane, hilarious! XD But he's down to only himself now, and on the run. Will be interesting, oh yes. And for all them forgetting Enket's tail, that was a nice hog-tie! Who doesn't like a well-done description of a binding done? I know I do!
Loved Enket's note to himself about panic not helping, but being very comforting! That's a Skaven mindset right there, yes-yes. Let's all hope he makes it safely back to the warrens...

Hel have time to think about how clever he was soon! As he catches his breath and looks over the city that was almost his doom. Before the book catches those red eyes again. What was so important about it...maybe just a peak. Before the next reminder for him to run away and that belly growling. Hes lost all his other gear after all. Getting back to Mormel is going to be tough. But maybe the Seer will be kind enough to offer him some food once hes back. As his real surprise is prepared for him~
Glad the description of the binding was enjoyed. I've only done things like that a few times before so glad it was follow-able and fun! Hopefully the next part with Mormel showing us all how its done will be a good read too. And Berold will likely show up later (if I remember) but I wanted to try and have some more established characters in this little warhammer world of mine. So Garrett and Berold will likely be showing up later :>
He better! Hes got the book to deliver after all. And try to work on getting his gear back. A new knife, journal, belt, lockpicks, pouches, money, and journal. And he lost Mormels' mark and money too! Naughty Enket. Im sure Mormel will punish him properly for it.

He'll maybe want to consider how he keeps getting caught in no-fur settlements. Despite being a clever and resourceful rat. Someone might think-wonder if maybe he's starting to like it. Enk needs to show just how clever he is once his belly starts grumbling. Can't eat the book... Shouldn't eat the book, no-no!
Big draw of a tie is just what is tied, no? What type of tie, especially if they have to worry about the bits humans don't have. If Berold had just tied Enket's wrists together, he could have nibbled right through. But like this, he could only make a squirmy wormy vermin... With a prehensile tail. Point is, it's important to know how a tie is done and it should be appreciated if the attention and effort was invested!
Ooh, that's true! Enk lost a lot of gear. Including something with a magic signature, and a journal of Gilm activities. Should not lose those, no-no! Bringing back the book looks more and more like keeping his head where it is now...

Perhaps something that Mormel can bring up during the fun times that Enket seemed to have a habit. Does he enjoy it? Does he want more situations like that? Surely Mormel could help him with that issue!
Part 5 is up now but demanded more words than I thought it would. Mormels back in it but no big surprise for Enket yet. Hope you enjoy it despite that D:
Super glad you like the tie stuff. I hope part 6 is an excellent read as well. I'm sure Mormel can help explain some things to Enket during the exploration and see if Enket enjoys the wrapping in a more peaceful situation! Thanks again for the encouragement as I explore things I'm not super well versed in.
And I thought that Mormel would appreciate the book but still be concerned for his new minion. Guess we'l see if I made the right choice when you have time to read part five.

Thank you so much Eternal <3
I just put up part five which unfortunately doesn't have more of that yet. Had to get some story details sorted out before more fun. But not to worry once we get to part six there will be much more of it. With lots of teasing and rubbing for Enket too. Hope you enjoy that when I am able to get to it :)
