An electric cigar box guitar should be played through an cigar box amplifier, right? I felt confident enough to build mine from a kit that I purchased from C. B. Gitty. The kit included an amplifier circuit with pre-wired leads, a box, and all of the other miscellaneous parts. A printed set of instructions and a link to a step-by-step how-to video were also provided. All I had to do was drill a few holes, mount the hardware in the box, and solder three pairs of wires.
C. B. Gitty is a great place for parts, kits, and ready-made cigar box guitars. You can find them at:

The guitar sounds pretty good, especially when played through my regular amp. A $50 amp with a 3-inch speaker is going to sound like, well, a cheap amp with a little speaker. It's a lot of fun, though. I'm sure it would sound great in the hands of a better musician than myself. I need to work on my slide technique.
I'm thinking about the jewelry box I made for my Dad. Tie clasps, cufflinks (he seldom used) and a few deceased watches. it was made from a small, flat cigar box he acquired somewhere. I painted the outside with green acrylics and lined the inside with red velvet left over from one of Mom's projects. Made for Christmas, obviously. I must have been 10 or 12. It's in my storage locker...
Ah, that's a cool story, made even better by the fact that you still have it.
I made my dad a keyholder in 7th or 8th grade wood shop class. We use only hand tools in that class. It was shaped like an old fashioned key itself and had 3 or 4 small hooks from which real keys could be hung. I regret leaving it behind when Mom finally passed away and we sold the house.
