It would be interesting to see the skeleton of such a creature. a cobras hood is actually a section of its ribs that it's able to flatten. So I'm imagining it would be a cross between a mustelid skeleton and a cobra

For this guy it's not so much a skeletal thing. It just flares up and gets really poofy, like a cat's tail when they feels threatened.
