Original Species: Graver Bear
As of now, there are no known species of hyenas living on the continent of Arcadia. In their stead, however, there are creatures that fill the role of large terrestrial scavengers: bears.
The Graver Bear is a nocturnal carnivore that inhabits the grasslands and sub-desert areas of the Arcadia continent. As night falls and the diurnal predators go to rest for the night, this 4-ton beast leaves its den in search of carrion or animals that are close to death, sick, or injured.
While it can take down live prey, the bear prefers to take the easier option. With the vast array of daytime predators, as well as their large prey, the graver bear rarely needs to worry about finding its next meal. Its keen ursine sense of smell allows it to locate carrion from several miles away.
Despite its scavenging lifestyle, the graver bear is still, in fact, a bear. Due to that fact, encountering one in the wild is extremely dangerous. As opposed to Earth's bears, the general rule is to actually run away. The graver bear is better suited for walking long distances consistently and not for active pursuit. Because of how large it is and what it primarily feeds on, neither playing dead nor fighting back is really an option (unless you're a high-level warrior or spellcaster, like Najila). If the potential meal is too fast, the bear will give up and go in search of an easier meal.
