Also do you like it okay? Is it pleasing? I'm having a weird bit of anxiety over the pic quality on this one.

What is it that makes you anxious? "Quality" is such a flexible word. Are you looking at composition? Execution? Color choice? Something else entirely?


I personally like what is happening here. This picture is beautiful, and disturbing at the same time, which is precisely the point. That's _why_ I set such loose parameters: I want to see what an artist comes up with. If the resulting art creates an arc of tension in me the viewer (*), then that means you succeeded brilliantly (**).


(*) Emphasis on "me" not "viewer" - each person will have their own response. The tension I experience may not exist in others, and/or be markedly different from that experienced by others

(**) Though you may be of a different mind. I seem to detect a struggle with the degree of creative freedom you have with this piece. Am I wildly off on that?

If I had to be pressed - the gradient background may be what's bothering you. I don't think gradients were in great use in the time period, and it breaks with the feel of the foreground. Is that what's gnawing at you?
