Seven years ago last night was the Pulse Nightclub Massacre, ending with 49 of us laying dead. As much as we don't want to remember this dark chapter in LGBTQ+ history, we still have to. For as good as this Pride month is going especially with the deaths of Pat Robertson and the Unabomber, this is is still in the middle of a dangerous time for trans people in America that will find its way to the rest of the queer community. Lest we see what happened at Pulse and Club Q happen more frequently.
This was a shooting that hit me when I first saw the reports in 2016. Just a complete surrender due the sheer numbers (this was the worst mass shooting in America until the Las Vegas Massacre of 2017 and the worst in the world since the Utøya Massacre as part of the 2011 Norway Attacks) and hitting me personally as a queer AMAB who was bullied for being queer. I outright was to emotionally spend after Pulse to feel sorrow in the wake of following mass shootings until Vegas. Pulse just hit. And I hope in today's wave of anti-queer rhetoric, legislation, and actions that we fight to prevent more violence against us.
