how did you do that in carrara dude?
Ive been fiddling around in it but dont know how to do everything in it yet.

Unfortunately, it seems you can only do fur/hair in the professional version.

There's a few tutorials for it; one of them is on daz3d's site. The actual process is too complex to go into, here.

i know in Daz3d is a decent fur shader and it is free

*ahem* Carrara is a daz3d product.

I'm not too sure about Daz Studio 3; but the one that I have can't do fur. At least, not geometry based, like this one. I could do it with a bump-map, but you can't animate/pose a bump-map.

What you are talking about is, for the most part, only good for single images; whereas I want to be able to have the fur move around, like it was blowing in the wind. But, that's me.

The biggest problem isn't with growing fur, it's with grooming it! Does Carrara allow you to "groom" (or direct) hair or are they always automatically directed?

Carrara has a 'comb' tool, but without seeing all the hairs in the display window, it's very tough to see where they are. But, if I do have them on, it absolutely kills my computer.

Ouch! No "guide hairs" feature? Modo 501 has this workaround, where you comb only a few hair and the rest is just affected by those through some interpolation.

Carrara has guide hairs, but they aren't worth a hoot.

I was thinking about borrowing my friends copy of Maya when he gets it. I hear their fur/hair is a lot easier to get setup
