What do you think of when someone says the word 'university'? It's safe to say that most people would think of studying, and exams, and professors and silly robes and the like - but a lot of people would also think of stress. Working and working, harder and harder, in a attempt to meet deadlines and not fall behind - working oneself to the bone... And perhaps still just not being good enough to succeed. Unfortunately, even in a world where magic might as well be ubiquitous, these experiences still hold as true as they do it ours.
Of course, wherever there's difficulty, there are those who seek to bend the rules to their advantage. And nobody will come to understand this more than Djuna the familiar, as a scheme she and her Master cook up backfires - for everyone else - in a very, very big way...
A safe-for-work story from me? What is this, 2015?
Anyways, it's safe to say that this story idea ran away from me a little. When I first started work on it I was thinking it'd be a nice, short thing I could get done in a week or two and then upload... But, as you can see by the thumbnail above and the word count below, it - rather fittingly - ended up growing far beyond initial expectations. Just like Djuna, the dragoness main character of this story, sometimes when I start I really can't stop myself. It would have been done a few weeks ago but some real-life stuff interrupted my momentum and then the ending gave me some trouble; but it's finished now, and I'm rather happy with it. As I mentioned in my description for The Necropolis I rather enjoy fantasy, and with this story I tried to capture a sort of 'dungeon synth-like' tone, specifically the sort of dungeon synth made by Fief rather than the older, grittier stuff - in other words, one with very little grimness, and with a mostly-pleasant atmosphere on top of the growth shenanigans. Hopefully I managed to succeed in that aim.

Hey, that's really an amazing story. A good variety of action and background infos/lore. I particulary liked Djuna's personality and how it delevoped later into the story. You don't see the "becoming a megalomaniac as they accent to godhood" trope without the character turning outright evil. "I know that I'm so much better than you and will be teasing you endlessly with it, but in the end remain my good natured self" is such a rare thing to see - and you executed it very well! A great read for sure!
This was a stunningly captivating and magnificently enchanting story. I didn't realize when I finished those ~70 pages of text, kinda like Djuna, haha.
Even though it's SFW, the story was more arousing and sexy than a lot of straight-up NSFW stories out there. I think it was the prose - the way you portrayed reactions, the usage of evocative descriptors, a swift narrative flow... it's difficult to analyze because I was too immersed in the story to pay attention. xD
Also, regarding the ending - there is a way for Djuna's master to completely turn the tables on her with a single request. Of course, that requires for him to comprehend the situation fully, in order to use such a stratagem in the first place.
On a different note, I'm surprised how nearly all stories about god-like power fantasy completely bypass the ethical ramifications of such hard takeoffs to ascension. Perhaps because that's an even greater existential abyss, but one fascinating to explore nonetheless.
Thank you for writing this story. I had a wild night reading it!

Thank you for all of the feedback, I'm glad that you had a good time reading the story! x3 I must be doing something right if you went through it so quickly you didn't even notice when it finished~ As for the paragraphs:
Yeah, I personally find growth in and of itself to be more exciting than most NSFW stuff. Part of my aim for the story was to keep it both SFW and 'exciting', so that if someone who wasn't into macro wanted to give it a read they wouldn't be put off.
I think I see what you're getting at with that 'single request'~ x3
Well, most people just want their power fantasies to be that without anything spoiling the fun or leading to certain negative consequences. I think there's room for both sorts of stories, but it really depends on the tone you want from a story.
Thank you, too, again, I love it when I get long in-depth comments~

I meant nothing naughty (unless examined from a certain perspective)
After reading the story and contemplating for a couple hours (because I was that stunned, haha), I figured - Djuna's master could simply ask her to replicate the process for him
Yes, he's human, not a familiar, so magic inherently works differently for him, as stated in the story, but I'm suuure such discrepancies/limitations would be no obstacle for a cosmic genius like Djuna xD
Regarding the power fantasy and the whole "ethical ramifications", I wasn't necessarily pointing out the negative sides. The point was that ethics are the ego's greatest opponent, if we take the concept of the ego as a person's existential "shadow".
Hypothetically, if a being possesses such vast, tremendous power, where does that leave them? Do they indulge their whims ceaselessly? What happens after the list is fully checked out? Do it again? Find something else to extend the self-centered activity? Does this lead to a descend toward decadence? Or on the contrary, can enlightenment be gleaned from the shock of such titanic change of perspective? What does one do with such power after they have tried everything they can think of? How does one's value system evolve after a personal experience of that magnitude? Assume personal responsibility? Adopt a non-interference policy? Benevolent tyranny? Simply be? Or something else entirely?
These and myriad of other questions provide an equally-grand canvas to further enhance stories about ascension to cosmic power, imo. Of course, I'm grossly oversimplifying the whole matter; wisdom, ethics, and enlightenment are quite sheer subjects to grapple with even on a good day.
And yeah, I agree that most people prefer their stories to be carefree rather than potentially overwhelmingly contemplative. I made that off-hand comment because I've developed a reading paradigm to always seek the deepest, innermost meaning in everything, even simple innocent narratives.
Also, it would probably be much more difficult to write a fun story about the expansion of conceptual horizons. :D

This was a very well done story! I particularly enjoyed the fact that Djuna, despite becoming extremely powerful and huge, still maintained a sense of morality and took it upon herself to ensure everyone's safety. Usually with stories like this people tend to write the character as narcissistic and self-centered the second they become huge. With Djuna, she has a nice healthy dose of 'I'm large, in charge, and loving it,' while remaining as her teasing self. As someone who also writes SFW Macro stories this with a teasing edge this was right up my ally.
Thank you; I'm glad you liked it! Don't get me wrong, rampaging macros are fun, but sometimes it's more fun to have to have all of that power not hurt anyone - after all, any macro can step on someone, but it takes an even greater level of power to cancel out all of that size and strength! And as for Djuna and teasing, definitely - like with rampaging, narcissism can be fun, but sometimes something a bit different fits better, or is even more fun.
