Back in 2010, I'd posted a work of art, combining background imagery with some of the rubber stamps in my collection. In that case, it was the NYC skyline with the twin towers of the World Trade Center, as part of my Patriot Day tribute to the remembrance of "9-11"...
You can still see it in my gallery at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4442438/
Well, in the wake of the recent 25th anniversary tribute to the seven astronauts who'd perished in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, I didn't want anyone to forget another team of astronauts who had also sacrificed their lives, in the name of science and space exploration: Namely, the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia, whose mission ended all too soon (during re-entry) on Saturday, February 1, 2003. Hence, this homage.
(NOTE: Back in 1993, when I was living in Reading, Pennsylvania, I came across [in a stationary store] a rubber stamp of the Space Shuttle, which I'd bought, and would later use on the envelopes of my mail, after moving down to Florida. Ironically, of all the shuttles in NASA's fleet, the one that said rubber stamp depicted was the Columbia.)
With NASA ending the Space Shuttle program later on in 2011, it's only fitting that we remember those brave souls - in both the Challenger and Columbia crafts - who truly went on 'the ultimate adventure'...

Foundation of the futre,
Courier of dreams.
Thunder on.
Sunshine brightens the horizon,
Tension rings the morning haze,
The shuttle standing proud against the wind.
No, the distant stars her delta wings will never grace
Coutdown pulses race
The launch begins.
Leslie Fish put it better than I could.

Back when "Columbia" was the new kid on the block, Leslie Fish wrote the song "Fly, Columbia" in homage. It was very stirring.
After the tragedy, Echo's Children (The Faber Sisters) wrote the song "Columbia." I thought it more appropriate to use the first. But, as for the second, lyrics are here: http://www.echoschildren.org/CDlyri...../Columbia.html
