Motorbike tattoo
I can proudly announce now my latest great grand artwork! It was worth waiting for, I hope you'll enjoy it.
So, this is a tattoo design I did for my friend Tedi, of her beloved Honda 929RR Fireblade motorbike, rearing and ridden by an anatomically accurate skeleton (considering I used her own body proportions this can as well be her own skeleton). The concept was entirely her own, I simply brought it to life. It was hard and prolonged work, but I can boldly say it payed off, in details, in accuracy, in everything. It's doubtlessly one of my best works so far. (I've noticed I keep saying this about many of my new works, which should mean I'm constantly evolving ^^ )
Surprisingly to my brother, although I am a biologist who doesn't know much about this kind of machines (some of the fellows that saw the picture actually thought I was VERY much into this matter), the motorbike was much easier to draw than the skeleton due to the simplest fact I had excellent reference photographs for it, while I had to figure out the posture and correct angles of all the bones by myself. BOTH were a lot of fun though. I am happy.
Technical remarks.
References used for the motorbike were given to me by Tedi; I kept as close to the ref as I could and for the first time I used a grid to "cheat" the Universe and get an exact sketch of the motorbike. I studied some photos of bikers driving on a rear tire to see what exactly the posture should look like, and I also collected a lot of anatomical references for each of the bones. (Here I should probably credit another friend of mine, Vladi, who provided me with some excellent anatomy atlases for artists a few years ago.)
Paper size about 37 x 39 cm (I think I lost the exact measures); 2B - 8B +HB pencils, + red, blue and black color pencils.
That's what's worth saying. Besides that she loved the drawing extremely much and was once again stunned by the detail level. I think I actually managed to once again surpass her expectations (which were quite high this time) with the result. I am being so modest now, I know.
Also, here's a link to the lineart for this design, which alone was excessively detailed.
Here is my first drawing of the motorbike with Tedi, done an year ago.
(This feels something like the popular "kick your own ass" meme.)
