This paunchy water monitor's enjoying a lazy swim off the coast of his idyllic local town, weaving between the sun's rays and swiftly gliding through the water.
A request filled for
RadLezar, who requested I draw a skinny-fat water monitor swimming from an under-side perspective. It was fun, but also quite the challenge! I've never drawn water quite like this before. It was difficult to convey, but I think the light rays help pull it together. I also took this as an opportunity to practice using "real" art pencils (6B, 2H, 2B) and one of those weird gummy erasers. To me, the difference is staggering. I can put down a much wider variety of tones and textures with them, unlike my mechanical pencils I've been using on the past works. They're more "controllable", if that makes any sense. Love how I could capture the wrinkly lines around the neck!
I still have quite a lot of practice and studying ahead of me, but man I'm happy with this one.
