Just south of Bonnie Doone beach between San Jose and Sacremento is an area at the bottom of a cliff that you can only reach by rope and only on a few special days or nights of the year. Most of the time the area is under water, but during the lowest tides, this fantastic wonderland of arches, tide pools and a natural sheltered, sandy arena is exposed for a few precious hours. It is a special place to me that really touches my soul. I should have taken more shots, but was too busy experiencing the place to worry about recording it.

I love when Mother Nature opens up her secrets to us. The sense of discovery and mystery carry me back to when I was 10 and my best friend and I would go hunting for dinosaur bones. The world was a wide open place then where anything was possible. Places like this beach and what you describe almost make me believe it again.
You can go too far. After awhile at the Ohio Institute of Photography, I realized that I was seeing the forest in terms of light and shadow and composition but not really feeling it. My camera had actually come between me and what I loved. My solution was a week spent in the woods without a camera. I would take hikes as slow as I could so that I could marvel at almost everything. It cleaned my soul and made me ready to pick of the camera again.
Ouf! You've studied this? I'm lucky to have a neighbor who used to teach photography. Quite the character. Picture 60's-ish German emigrant who likes heavy metal (!?!) He's been giving me excellent tips and critique.
Mmmm, hyper-awareness. I see ALL things mathematically. Sometimes I miss the soft-ish Japanese rock garden kinda shots because I'm so tuned to other things.
