This is a shot of a preserved schoolhouse from the early 1800's just outside Lingkoping, Sweden. I wanted to show so much but kept moving in and in until I got to this composition where each item says so much about not just the school but life itself at that point in history. I chose to sepia tone it to enhance the feeling of age and history.

Sweet! There's some really nice noise and aging filters in Paint Shop Pro that would do good things with this.

I definitely see what you mean. I use a mac and will see what I can come up with in Gimp. I have the latest Adobe PhotoShop on the way as well.
All the shots I have posted are old ones. Most with my old digital camera and recovered from the personal archive of a friend who reduced them to minimal size. From here on out, they will be new stuff and enhanced with new tools.
