Mallory was an average scientist before a colossal lab accident left damaged beyond reasonable repair. Forced to rebuild herself up from scrap and refusing to die she survived that day....mostly intact.
Mal has been a little off since then, but still as on the money as ever with her experiments.
Her left arm, left eye, and both legs are now but bronze and gears, but she almost seems to treat that MORE like the real her, opting to cover her undamaged arm and eye.
Regardless, her experiments continue, now under the watchful eye of her new sponsors.
