Plugging away at another plush using the
northsound pattern! This is my own character, Icemoon the dragon/fox/creature. I've got her arms, legs, head, and torso sewn, and one ear done. Still need to do her dragon-wings, her dragon tail, and her other ear, as well as her ram horns. Then it's a lot of soft sculpting on the face, adding eyes and a nose and a smile, and then assembling everything.
Hoping to have her done by the weekend, we'll see how it works out. And there's a test pawpad up in the right corner there, trying just regular puffy paint on the minky of the paws, seems to be working great so far.

Do you have any tutorial to recommend for soft sculpting? I'm always just doing whatever feels right thinking in 3d but on some occasions I have a hard time getting the results I want. I'm also having the hardest time ever measuring the proportions of parts that will be shaved vs parts that will have full pile. On small plushes with long pile fur it can break the look of a face so easily...
We don't have a tutorial up yet for soft sculpture, but I would look around at dollmaking sites. There's some pretty good ones out there that are geared towards teaching people how to soft sculpt human faces for their dolls, but a lot of those techniques can be translated over to anthro faces, as well. The key is using a REALLY HUGE needle, my soft sculpting needle is 5" long, so it can go all the way through the head without getting lost inside of it. We're trying to document as we do these new plushes over in
northsound, and hopefully will have a little something about soft sculpture included in all of the photos.
