Dragon tail thing someone commissioned. Pretty much the default simple pattern. (Honestly I'm a bit tired of it, this is probably the third pretty much identical one of these I've made.) Aluminum scales with a stripe of brass down the middle.
The brass scales that The Ring Lord carries nowadays aren't as yellow as the older type they had. Not really a good or a bad thing, just a thing I've noticed.
A tail like this would be $150.

Well if I could get one, Id probably want something a bit longer. Maybe round 35 in long, as well as (if possible) some sort of spikes lined down the middle. Perchance if you could make that possible, you could offer it as an addition? Also might use the larger scales on the top, and smaller on the bottom (if you'd think that would look right...) You could try to find some sort of tail end to add to them too, as not every dragon's tail ends in a tapered point. Some have blade-like ends and the like.
Maybe some experimentation of your own would open up possibilities for other people to use that they never knew existed? I know if I ever had the money, Id get a full chain suit made up (shirt, bracers, chaps, tail, maybe a belt...) with black leather accents. Hehe... that would be one hell of a commission to both make and pay for! XD

So actually most of those things are things I've thought about. I'm working on a way to attach some spikes that I found ( http://studsandspikes.com/buy/claw-.....-bag-of-5.html ), but haven't figured out a nice way of doing it yet. Next time I have convenient access to the metal shop I intend to try making a spade end for a tail, though the issue with that is making sure it doesn't damage stuff (like your legs) when it swings.
Mixing large and small scales is something I've toyed with in the past, but since making large things with the small scales takes so much longer I've kind of just decided not to bother with that.
And working leather details in is something I would totally learn to do except there are only so many hours in the week. Maybe once I'm out of school.

Yea, thats where I had the spikes idea anyhow, from that link (you posted it somewhere before). Perhaps using a washer before and after the screw so that the spike is attached to a ring, then using strong glue so the spike doesn't rotate would work? It would need to be attached after the ring has been linked up though. The spade end would be good if you made it somewhat think, then "blade" the edges so it looks sharp, but really isn't. The lighter the better for that, so size wouldn't be too big.
Also had the idea to make the tail more of a sleeve, then putting one of those fur tails through the end of it would look good. Look like the tail was armored, but not encased.

(1) As an architecture student, I've learned a lot more than I want to have to know about glues, which means I don't trust glue to hold on something that has to take any abuse. Welding it in place might be the way to go, but I currently can't deal with that.
(2) I also don't really have the requisite skills to nicely shape a spade tip.
(3) I also don't have the time (or interest really) to learn to sew fur tails and stuff. Someone almost commissioned me to work with someone else to do something like that, though.

Actually the fur tail thing was more of a "customer adds it in" thing. Their easily gotten anymore, so personally making one wouldn't need to be done. The tail I have uses a lil chain to clip onto belt loops and the like, I'm sure it would clip into one of your scale tails if it were made more sleeve-like (though strengthening the place where the chain meets the tail is a good idea... Busted mine the other day when i accidentally stepped on the tail while crouched >_<). The glue was a poor choice now that I think about it... Ive had my own bad experience with glue and a staff, the staff head gem fell off, and again fell off when the staff again fell even though the glue was "permanent". Anywho, welding it or finding a way to attach a spike to two rings instead of one would prevent it from moving or rotating.
