Suuuuper belated birthday gift for my girlfriend
hunterbeinghunted who is an absolutely amazing person and who has been one of my main inspirations ever since I started posting my first artworks on Deviantart! Seriously, check out her gallery NOW!
This was supposed to be ready more than a month ago, but then life got in the way and I had to deal with an art block... but hey, better late than never! I have to say I'm quite happy with the result, it was fun working once again on a detail-rich illustration like I used to do more in the past! ^^
The characters belong to my gf, and their names are Varius (Leonine) and Corvin (Lupine). They are a couple, and it's quite rare for these two races to develop romantic relationship, as in her setting the Leonines are pretty much slowly invading and colonizing the lands of the Lupines. Still, these two managed to overcome their differences and they love each other to bits, and I find them utterly adorable. I'd draw them all day.

It's quite clear Corvin is the more competent hunter of the two, it's likely Varius was the one who shot the bear in the butt. :P

This piece really came out amazing! The poses with those expressions absolutely cracked me up! XD Hilarious! You also did justice to both Corvin and Varius, and you added SOOoo much detail to the characters and that background! It looks gorgeous! And the coloring looks so good! ;-;
Also.. that disapproving toad and owl are details I truly cherish :P They know Varius messed up big time and disapprove greatly!

hehe Bad aim or draw of the arrow - I can see that. Done some archery over the years. Corvin replies, "No, doofus, YOU were supposed to attack from the left."
After looking back at the bear, Varius says, "Do you think you can outrun a bear?"
"I don't have to outrun the bear. I just have to outrun you."

This reminds me, if I remember correctly in pre-Christian Finland people never spoke the "real name" of the bear in fear of summoning it, and they used different names instead. They did a lot of bear-worshipping rituals as well. Does Sakara's tribe do similar things?

I vaguely remember something about that. From the museum in Tampere, with examples of bear claw/tooth necklaces, which I believe the necklace I got there is a smaller imitation of.
Though, weirdly, I don't have many beliefs about bears and wolves, or big predators in general, for Sakara's people. I've neglected them a bit, really. I don't even have tribes with them as patron spirits.

Ha ha ha! I love how comical this scene looks, especially with the exaggerated facial expressions for almost every creature featured in this picture! Plus, with so much care put into the composition, detail and colouring as usual, this almost looks like an illustration for a book and/or comic! Very well done!
