FALocalRepo: A Fur Affinity Archival Program
Hello everyone,
This submission is not related to any story I have written nor art I have commissioned, instead it is meant to publicly show a piece of software I have been working on for the past few years.
As the title suggests, FALocalRepo is a program that allows you to archive Fur Affinity content. Everything is saved in a local SQL database with all the metadata shown in the submission and journal pages, including comments. The program supports many more file types than FA – including videos – and it even allows to add multiple files to each submission. It can can archive submissions, journals, and also userpages.
But that is not all, the program contains a utility that starts a small server on your machine and lets you browse your entire database in a browser, with full search functionality!
The only requirement to run the program is to install Python on your computer (you can find instructions in the program's wiki), after that you can run it from anywhere on your machine.
You may be asking yourself "why should I use FALocalRepo instead of furarchiver.net (or other)?", and the answer is simple: you get more metadata than any other FA archival software, you can browse & search your downloads in a proper interface, and you can keep your database up to date with a single command. Plus, the browser interface for FALocalRepo has more functionalities than FA's own, with improved search logic, ability to query all metadata fields of submissions, and it even allows searching journals and users and mentions of users. If that wasn't enough, you can also set the program to download submissions as BBCode instead of HTML, so you can search them more easily.
The program has way too many functions to list them all here, but you can read all about them on the official GitHub page: github.com/FurryCoders/FALocalRepo.
And you can find all details about the browser interface on its separate GitHub page: github.com/FurryCoders/FALocalRepo-server.
I really hope this program will be of use to those who need it. It started as a hobby project to learn about Python, and it expanded into a whole family of furry-related software and websites which you can explore on GitHub github.com/FurryCoders, and I am honestly quite proud of some of them.
I will be posting about all of them eventually, and the next one is going to be for the furry devs out there: a fully documented API library for Fur Affinity and a web API based on it.
One more thing... the next major version of FALocalRepo is in the works and it will be overhauled to support plugins for other websites. Soon you will be able to archive major furry sites with a single program and explore everything from the same interface!
You are welcome to ask me any questions about the program, just leave a comment or write me a note :)
