Original Species: Arcadian Honey Bee
The Arcadian Honey Bee is a fairly docile species of flying insect. Through observation and careful study, scholars have deduced that these bees attack only when their nests are directly disturbed. It is safe to walk around near the hive for as long as no physical contact is made.
Arcadian bees seem to show a significant amount of curiosity towards humanoids, often landing on researchers and directly inspecting them with their fuzzy limbs.
In the rainy season, these insects will travel vast distances in search of flowering plants and will work tirelessly to stock up on honey for the thin dry-season months. It is estimated that a single hive of these bees can produce anywhere between 50 to 500 kg worth of honey during times of plenty.
Arcadian Honey Bees have great significance for True Dragons. Every dragon territory has at minimum 100 bee colonies spread over it and dragons will even ensure that there are well-kept meadows for the bees to forage. That is because of how baby dragons develop. For the first two weeks of their lives, baby dragons require soft, high-energy food in order to jump-start their growth and further development. For that exact reason, the parent dragons will take turns flying around their territory and collecting both honey and bee larvae for their offspring to eat. They will collect these by taking bites out of bee hives and transporting pieces of said hives to their lair. Dragons limit themselves to biting each bee hive 1 or 2 times at most, in order to keep the colonies from dying off.
While the bees might not like this arrangement, it is still more beneficial to them than harmful; while dragons maintain the bees' feeding grounds, the bees provide baby dragons with their first food. Both parties benefit by having one another around.
