Link, the Hero of Hyrule. He has trained all his life for the day where he'll be needed. For when evil rises, he must be ready.
But little did he know, the forces of evil had been plotting as well.
Ganon's minions froze Link and left his body in the depths of Mt. Doom, believing Link would never wake up and when their dark lord returned, Ganon could retake the Triforce of Power and seize the Triforce of Wisdom.
100 years later, Link awakens from his slumber and climbs his way out of Mt. Doom, only to find a Hyrule ravaged by Ganon's minions. Now Ganon, the Master of Darkness, holds the Triforce of Power and Wisdom.
"So, you're the 'Hero' running around now, huh?"
Standing before him is a familiar figure. It looks like the Zelda he knew, but that's impossible, isn't it? His Zelda would've died a long time ago and he...he senses something. Something familiar...different.
Then, he sees her hand. It's the same mark that is upon his!
"My name is Princess Zelda the 4th. The new wielder of the Triforce of Courage. Come on, we could use another soldier like you."
"...You? The Legendary Hero Link? Nice try, but everyone knows Link died 100 years ago. Though the green tunic is nice. Keep it. It'll inspire people. Hope keeps us alive, ya know?"

Another crack at a Zelda Game that kept the old 80s aesthetics.
I'd imagine this would come out after Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link. After his last two adventures, Link had heard rumors of Ganon's Monsters getting much closer to resurrecting Ganon than ever before, but Link is ready for it. Or, he would, bur Ganon's minions caught him off guard and used a spell to freeze Link like a statue and then threw him in a dungeon where he couldn't get in their way.
In those 100 years, Hyrule's gone to hell! The Zelda(s) Link knew is long gone, but thankfully, she managed to pass on both her legacy and the Triforce of Courage. All the while, Ganon got his hands on two Triforce pieces, and Zelda the 4th had to form a rebellion to try and take back their home.
I think this game would be an open world adventure game, with a manuel giving you a full map of Hyrule. You'd need to take notes of NPCs and quest across the land in order to find powerful artifacts, spells, allies, and weapons for your inevitable battle with Ganon. Or, you could be a gremlin and try to bum rush his castle and hope for the best.
And yes, all of this WAS just an excuse to draw Zelda in a chainmail bikini.
