The Ropen, or what the Island of Africas' tribes call it "Arvdenzu", meaning Fire Demon of the sky
Family: Azhdarchid.
Habitat: Their range is more or less worldwide, with some exception to the coldest regions. Being mostly migratory or having no set territory outside of the when mates come together to breed, most are lone wanderers. Only having set territories in regions of high mountain areas that are extremely difficult for almost all of the egg hunters to get to.
Size: When hatched, they start off as the size of a tall human, nearly 7 feet tall and weighing at 20 lbs. When they reach adult size, they are about on average 30 feet tall, with the titan sizes reaching to right about 40 feet tall. Adult wingspans on average are around 70-78 feet from tip to tip, with the titan sized animals reaching close to 95, if not 100 feet across. On average, weight estimates are between 800 to 1400 pounds.
Speed: Running speed can be up 25 mph when ground hunting, but only in short bursts. It's average cruise speeds can range greatly from 30-70 mph, with a diving speed of up to 240 mph. Shockingly it is capable of swimming, swimming at 8 mph.
Lifespan: With it being able to reach massive sizes and studies on its bones, it is recorded to reach sexual maturity at age 20, with an average lifespan of 120-140 years, but healthy animals can live rarely up to 200 years.
Diet/Hunting: Due to being an apex predator that is capable of flying for very long distances, anything smaller than it or not capable of defending itself against such a beast is fair game, usually anything from the size of an african elephant to smaller is on the menu, with this making humans on the menu as well. But large prey is also readily hunted, but requires planning and tactics in order to take it down, but these kinds of hunts rarely happen. These species will also readily eat charcoal for the chemicals needed to fuel their flaming breath. Their flame breath is normally a weapon they use as a deterrent of rival species and used for hunting.
Social/Parenting: Non mated animals or animals that are taking a break from egg care and raising young are always solitary and have no set territory, traveling worldwide in search of food. Mated pairs mate for life, fully monogamous to each other until one or both of them pass away. Mated pairs have a massive set territory that can be from 70 to 100 miles on average with both parents caring for the eggs or young. The young are capable of flight after hatching, like all other pterosaurs, but their parents will care for them for 6 months, teaching them how to hunt and survive until the parents separate and abandon the young so they can care for themselves, for which the mated pair won't reconnect after 4 years. But mated pairs will always stay faithful and come back to the same nesting site to reconnect and care for their young. Some scientists have theorized that these animals, though most deny it, are actually capable of love to each other due to them never leaving each others sight when rebonding and showing much affection to each other when caring for their eggs and young.
Conflicts: Ropens, with them not being discriminate on what prey they eat, has lead to a good amount of deaths to occur, with attacks numbering in the 100's and deaths being of similar but less number per year. So with the international treaties, it is agreed that areas where there are known Ropen nesting sites are to be evacuated for certain periods of time until the young and parents separate and leave the regions. In places where firearms are allowed to be kept and in colonies where laws are much more loose, residents are given restrictions on when activity can occur or not, especially major events. These massive and powerfu predators also compete with some regions local flyers, including the wyverns and dragons, depending on the location. Along with that, when hunting a smaller predator, they might come into conflict with a local Monstrumasaurus, which a fight between those two animals has been known to cause mayhem to the local area and is one of the few battles between titans that is feared and astonishing the world over to witness....
This is also my homage to Rodan and wanted to see him be brought into a more spec evo and more natural light. Hope you enjoy the art.
