Felt like being mean... but as always to what sounds like someone who'd deserve it... So made a quickie. Nothing too crazy, just something I thought in a jiffy and here it is, so read if you feel like it. Shrinking stuffs like always.
Death Row
From darkness to light. Just moments ago he remembered being knocked unconscious by a guard. Now everything was different. Instead of being in his cell he was sitting in a rather lavishing chair in a very ornate, Chinese feng shui themed office that had a red fox scientist woman sitting behind it. She was flipping through reports, not giving him any acknowledgement. After ogling the place he then noticed his hands and paws were no longer cuffed or chain balled. Why? There was a civilian just sitting right there. He was on death row for several murders. How’d he go from cement block prison to… this?
Reaching an arm up he attempted to grab the fox, more to see what might happen, not so much to harm… yet. “I recommend taking that arm back if you know what’s good for you.” He stopped. She spoke to him without looking up. He hadn’t made a sound, yet she knew. She had a bit of an arrogant tone… made him want to add her to his list, but for now he’d play along. Get information.
“Where am I? Why am I here?”
“I’ll be asking questions first, convict. Perhaps when I am finished I may answer yours,” she yipped, snapping at him and finally looking at him directly. She had very fine crafted sapphire eyes. Again that tone… that authority she thought she had. “Alan Dirk. Two hundred thirty pounds. Male. Black-Gray Wolf. Height six five. Eyes Yellow. Currently on death row for the murder of several innocent women. Is that all correct?”
“Yes,” he said flatly. The more she talked the more he wanted to put her in her place. All high and mighty, just like the others. “Ya know doc, it’s kind of a big mistake leaving me without a leash in here. Would be real easy to just- Grk-!” He was stopped by her touching his arm unexpectedly. He was then hit with a jolt of electricity. It wasn’t quite on the level of a taser, but it did drain him a bit. “What the fuck?!”
“I will make things clear here and now, big man. If you even try touching me, that’ll happen. By the way I turned it down for that demonstration, any further attempts to try and man handle me will be met with far greater volts. I am NOT one of YOUR victims. You are now MINE. To help you comprehend this, allow me to explain and answer your earlier questions. This is a secret laboratory that you’ve been brought to. The government doesn’t like wasting sentient resources all the time with mere execution when you could much better serve by aiding experiments considered cruel, especially for people like you where death is far too forgiving for the things you’ve done. Do yourself a favor and be a good boy. It’ll win you some brownie points. Make your time with me less miserable. Kindness you probably don’t deserve, but I like being fair.”
Glaring, he tried his best to restrain himself. So badly he wanted to wring that pretty little neck of hers, but he did NOT want to be tazed again. Where was the electricity coming from?! Was her body just surrounded by a cage of energy? He couldn’t see any device on her body. “Then may I ask what the hell you’ll be doing to me?”
She chuckled. “Will be? It’s actually already in progress. You were supposed to be injected during transport. Surprised you haven’t noticed it already. I am five five after all. That should be enough of a hint.”
Frowning, he was completely lost with her game of riddles. What did her height have to do with any…. No, wait, if she was five five then why were their heights almost the same while sitting? He should have a head on her at least, yet they were leveled. No, looking right at her it felt like she was slowly getting bigger, but the experiment was him so then she wasn’t getting bigger but he was shrinking! With that realization he panicked. Desperately he leapt from his chair to grab her. A stupid move, but how does one keep their cool when they realize they’re shrinking?
Of course upon contact he was again electrocuted, this time with far more volts. He barely let go in time to avoid being knocked out again, left sizzling in his seat. The fox glared at him, but slowly those eyes began to get curious. The wolf’s shrinking went from slow to quick. The panic set in more, but burnt out he could only helplessly watch her begin to loom over him more and more. Faster and faster.
“Fascinating~! The electric charge has somehow sped up the experimental shrinking serum! What an unexpected variable. My first did nothing, clearly a big enough dose is needed.”
“H-How small am I going to get?!” He wailed, feeling his clothes grow looser, saggier. In seconds he was already the size of a child and still dropping.
“How should I know? It’s experimental after all. There have been some before you. They all shrunk out of sight. No idea where they might be or if they just left this existence entirely to be honest. We’ve refined the serum since then, maybe you’ll be lucky and keep some sort of stature. On the plus side with how the serum works, it condenses your matter, you’ll be nigh indestructible… it just costs all the big sizey goodness. Must be a perfect trade off. “Let’s see, my demonstration tap didn’t trigger anything before… but when you tried attacking me and relieved a bigger jolt the shrinking rapidly increased. A certain amount of volts are required. Question now is if anything happens if I do it again?” He cowered, tail between his legs as a long, devilish smirk rolled across her face. “Will you shrink even faster? Maybe you'll get lucky and it’ll stop? Only one way to find out…”
Scrambling he tried to jump from his chair to flee, but between his still shrinking three foot sized form and his now oversized clothes that kept making him trip when he got to the floor. It took her no effort at all to simply walk around the desk and give him a poke that sent him for a loop. Left a smoking mess in his shirt, his shrinking surprisingly stopped, leaving him stuck at teddy bear size. The scientist quickly jotted down her notes. “Incredible. The serum has a shocking relation to electricity. It can function as an on/off switch or a slow to speed up function all depending on the level of jolts. Maybe that’s not too much of a surprise given certain aspects of the serum… it is still welcome. Perhaps a work around could be made to give total control to the shocker? Unfortunately for you my tiny test subject. Today’s test was to see if we finally worked out the bug that made people shrink endlessly without outside interference. If you’ll be so kind to stand still~”
He did, but not because he wanted to. Indestructible he might have been, the jolts still put a damper on his nerves. The best he could do for now was move an arm, trying hopelessly to pull away from the ever approaching finger. “P-please no! Mercy!”
“Oh please, I’m sure your eight victims asked the same of you, and you never gave them the courtesy. Why should you be granted any yourself? Besides, I already gave you a chance…” She coldly remarked. Her finger poked at his back. Once more electrocuting him and turning on the shrinking. The world rapidly left him as he was left unable to move. He allowed unconsciousness to take him rather than watch the scene play out. He was left to pray that whenever he awoke it would have all been a nightmare.
~
He awoke to a plain of complete emptiness. Literally there was nothing as far as the eye could see. A void, the only thing of interest was the glass surface below. Flat, and as bland as the view. He yelled out, hoping to get some sort of clue to his dilemma, and was greeted by a buzz in his ear. He felt it, an ear piece? Had that always been there? How was it so small? Wait, was he still small? Then a voice, one that sent chills down his spine as he was reminded of the reality he was still living in.
“Enjoy the nap? Congratulations are in order Alan,” The fox sang her triumphant voice into his ear, “you’re the first subject to stop shrinking forever! This’ll be a huge advancement for our people.”
“Wh-what…? You stupid bitch where am I?! Tell me! I don’t care about your achievements, just tell me what’s going on?!”
“Tch.., Alan, Alan, Alan. I was considering making your time alive more comfortable but if you’re going to be saying such awful words I’m afraid your services will no longer be required. I’ll at least explain to you your new surroundings, just to sink in how hopeless you are now. You probably can’t see anything down there because at your new microscopic size your field of vision can’t see me, or my office, or even the microscope the slide you're standing on is under.
He felt his fur stand on end. As much as he wanted to believe it wasn’t true, the endless glass he stood on was all the proof needed that she wasn’t lying. He was forever trapped as nothing more than a germ to be toyed with by a planet sized fox. Still, he had one way to maybe piss her off. Grabbing the ear piece he snarled all sorts of profanity into it before crushing it in his hand.
In response to his actions two red furry mountains came into view, grabbing the glass he stood on, quaking his platform as they moved him somewhere. So small he still couldn’t see anything but what was most likely her fingers. A black surface appeared below the glass and he was tilted towards it. The whole world flipped upside down and he was crushed into the black and left behind as the glass floated away. A rotten smell filled his nose, but before he could dwell on it something big, red, and heavy crushed him into the ground. All around him were huge rope like things, one of which was pinning him down. Between the black cushion, the smell, and these fibers he realized where he’d be spending the rest of his eternity.
~
Taking off her shoe she tilted the slide into it… then she just smothered the side he was standing on inside it to be safe. As small as he was, odds were that he had different rules of gravity and might stay stuck there. Who knew… more testing for that later. Maybe with a convict more pleasant, if that was even possible. Without a care she slipped the shoe back on. A shame he broke his comm link in anger. Would have been nice to hear journals about his new life as a microbe living in her shoe, on her feet, smothered or climbing her paw prints, maybe even a full documentary-like perspective journey living like a nomad crossing her planetary body? Oh well… Now it was time to review notes and possibly make something that left them at a more manageable size than a microscopic germ.
