You will always lose some when you brush, but if you don't brush often enough you'll have it start matting up on you in ways that never brush out. Wash in cold water and use fabric softener, that seems to help in my case. But there are parts of my suit, particularly the paws, which are so matted there is no hope for them, and they are also wearing through. fur is unfortunately not a durable material.
Some kinds of fur seem to mat more than others, mostly the really fine stuff made by distinctive fabrics, which I try to avoid using, but sometimes I have no choice.
Brush often, and you shouldn't lose very much.
