Technically not the american new year... and a bit late for the actual chinese new years... but I have the PSG icons to blame for the latter part =P
I've been dying to do this since Christmas, and it wasn't until I was gone to Dallas that I actually had a little convo with Stel on the phone about ideas and drew it up in the hotel. And finally she's finished, me so happy. ^ ^
This year is, if you haven't noticed from the others around, is the Year of the Rabbit. Just like last year, the element of this rotation is metal, associated with white, wind, precious metals (gold, silver, etc) and blah blah... So here we have the pretty bunny elf Tia. Why I didn't go with using her actual furre version, which is an actual white rabbit... or at least a white jackalope... It just feels like forever since the last time I actually drew Tia, let alone her elven form, and since I'm looking at her Sonic revisions being mostly posted anytime soon (in fact theres a little surprise tomorrow), I wanted to make her elf-self (hurhurhur) to be the big key figure of the year. Besides, she looks adorable with the little 'playboy' ears. =P
This makes my lettering look all choppy, but I think it came out well overall. The patterns on the robe and soft overlay on the background are from Simply-Alice over at DevArt, who i've been a fan of for a loooong time, but only just now found a reason to use one of her patterns. I've tried the cel-shaded look many a times, with mixed results before, but I like how it came out here as well.

Just a variation of cel-shade, the same kind of work you'd expect for games like Okami or Zelda:WindWaker, blahblah... it'd actually not that unusual for me to use it, but the most often cases I do is in Illustrator, not Photoshop, and more often for my commercial and advertising designs, not my personal work.
