The spots are the "dapple" decals. The "spots" decal makes spots appear on the character's throat and belly, which is not good for my purposes. I wish the dapples went a little further across the back and down the legs, though--they're mainly on the arms, shoulders, and hips.
Thanks! I see so many people don't seem to bother with the "advanced posing" tool, they just use the preset poses, which is a shame because there's so much possibility in the "advanced pose." Just moving the eyes around can give life to the figure, as can changing the facial expression.
I like figuring out what I need to do to morph the base pose into what I see in my mind's eye. With this one, the back of his shoulders is bent a little funny because I didn't move his clavicles enough when I raised the arms. So the 3D turn-around has a glitch, but the screen shot from one angle looks great!
