This is a NAGRA IV-SJ manufactured by KUDELSKI SA of Switzerland in 1978. According to the sales brochure, this device is “The instrumentation version of the NAGRA IV, specially developed for noise and vibrations measurement and recording.”
One of my coworkers came across this beauty several weeks ago. I asked my boss if I could take it home to photograph. Sadly, there were no accessories with it: no cables, no tapes, no microphones. Even the carrying handle is missing (and that would have been nice to have - this baby is HEAVY).
Besides external power, there is a battery compartment large enough for a dozen D-cell batteries. I briefly considered buying some just to see if this recorder would power up, but opted to pass on that experiment. I can’t imagine what this device would weigh with a full complement of batteries.

Giving it some more thought, she would probably try to sell it in a garage sale rather than simply throw it out. Or maybe she's given it to somebody. Maybe her new hubby has it now. It's fine. There's not much I would use it for anyway. I've got a nice audio cassette deck and a good digital 4-channel audio recorder.
